A guide to Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage

While 14 top teams prequalified for the Swiss Stage, two teams fought their way to the Worlds Swiss Stage by winning Play-In. As the name suggests, the Swiss Stage will feature a five-round, Swiss-style format where the teams with the same win-loss record will compete against each other until they achieve 3 wins or 3 losses.

Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage Format

  • A total of 16 teams participate

  • This includes 14 prequalified teams and the two teams that made it out of Play-In

  • This stage will have a swiss-style format with five rounds

  • While teams with three wins will advance to Knockout Stage of Worlds 2023, the teams with three losses will be eliminated.

  • The qualification and elimination matches are best-of-three (BO3) with all other matches being BO1.

At the start of Swiss Stage, the teams will be randomly paired against a team from a different region. Each of these pairs will play a single BO1 match. In Round 2, teams will be re-matched against teams that have the same record as them. For example, teams with a 1-0 record will only be matched with another team with a 1-0 record.

This rematching will continue for a total of five rounds, until teams advance or get eliminated from Worlds 2023.
