Players do not need to purchase Modern Warfare 2 as Warzone 2.0 shall be free.
Once Warzone 2.0 releases, the current iteration of Warzone will no longer be available.

Call of Duty: Warzone is entering a new chapter with the release of Warzone 2.0. The new version of Warzone will be available to everyone for free starting 16th November and it will release as a part of Modern Warfare 2 Season One. Warzone has seen over 125 million players play the game and the release of Warzone 2.0 will boost the player count even further.

What’s new in Warzone 2.0?

The biggest change is the new map that is coming to the game. Dubbed “Al Mazrah”, the new map is a metropolitan area featuring coastal towns, depots, desert, rocky peaks, subterranean spaces, industrial areas, rivers, and an entire city to explore. The map will also introduce aquatic combat and swimming to the game.

Players can now swim in the water or use the Armored Patrol Boats to fight other players. A dozen unique vehicles are also being added and more may be added in the future. Also, depending on the vehicle you’re commandeering, you can customize it with a skin, including the free “Floor It” Vehicle Skin you can unlock during the Open Beta.

Shop Rework

The Warzone shop is being reworked and it seeks to shake up the gameplay.

  • Squadmate Buy Back: Just like in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’re able to buy back a teammate after they’ve been taken down either in combat, or failed to return from the all-new Gulag.

  • Buy Gear: Just like the function of the original Buy Station, you can purchase equipment such as Gas Masks, Killstreaks, Armor, and more.

  • Limited Equipment: Limited-stock items.

  • Buy Weapon: Prior to a match, your main preparation is focused on creating a number of custom weapons for your next match in Al Mazrah. You purchase these custom weapons from here. Note this takes the place of a full Loadout (your Primary, Secondary, Tactical, and Lethal as well as Perks).

Custom Weapons are constructed in the Gunsmith menu, and then bought here. They take up your weapon slots. Tacticals and Lethals are very common ground loot. Perks will not be available in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 at launch.

Gameplay Changes

The circle is being changed in Warzone with weather pattern anomalies having a chance to spawn in safe zones. Players can also experience zones splitting into multiple circles before reconverging into a single safe zone towards the end of the game.

AI combatants are also being added to the game and engaging them is optional. The AI enemies will not engage players unless provoked. The new RICOCHET anti-cheat will be available day one with the release of Warzone 2.0 and there will be limited-time cosmetics on offer for players to unlock via the Shop.
