Valorant was released in 2020 and this free-to-play first-person hero shooter game has taken the world of gaming and esports by storm. Casual and pro players alike have showcased their love and passion for Valorant over the past two years and it has become the talk of the town. With the esports part of the game picking up pace and new talent emerging from different parts of the world, there is always the narrative of who is the best player in Valorant currently. In a recent livestream, Tyson "TenZ" Ngo shared his opinions about this. TenZ is notably one of the most storied players in Valorant esports.
TenZ shares his two cents on the debate of the best Valorant player
TenZ, in his livestream, said, “I don’t think there is [one] and I don’t think there will ever be a distinct ‘best player ever’. There are different roles. People fulfill completely polar opposite roles. Some people are not even playing an FPS sometimes.”
He explained the roles that fraggers and smokers play in this diverse game. “If you are playing like an Astra or some sh** you’re playing fu*** Starcraft like going into your sh** and you’re throwing smokes.”
TenZ then acknowledged that duelists are the flashiest and that they are bound to get away with frags and sprays. He said he would probably have to play alongside every player that’s playing the game to tell if they are the best. TenZ added, “But then I’d be like ‘These are the best teammates I’ve ever had’”
It would take a few years for people to officially put a name under the “best Valorant player ever” tag since the esports scene is very young and there’s still a long way to go. With such well-defined roles – Duelists, Initiators, Controllers, and Sentinels – it would be incredibly difficult for just one player to rise above all.
One could name a handful of players as the best in their roles but the competitive scene has to age a few years and see consistent results from teams and players to reach such a consensus.
Notably, no team in Valorant esports has won an international LAN back-to-back and this shows how competitive the scene is.
Currently, the World Championship of Valorant aka Valorant Champions 2022 is ongoing in Istanbul, Turkey. A total of six teams are still in the running to claim the trophy and the lion’s share of the prize pool.
