Tekken 7 which first debuted in March 2015 has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Game director Katsuhiro Harada took to Twitter to thank fans for their “continued support” for the franchise. He also revealed that the Tekken series has sold over 54 million copies worldwide.

Tekken 7 is the franchise’s most successful game to date

Some of the most successful games in the franchise include Tekken 3 which sold 8.5 million copies and Tekken 5 which sold 8.2 million copies. With the sale of over 10 million copies, Tekken 7 is the most successful one to date. The game sold 3 million copies when it first became available outside arcades and racked up 5 million sales by the end of 2019.

Tekken has enjoyed moderate success over the years compared to other fighting game titles. The best-selling fighting game of all time, Super Smash Bros. sold 28.82 million copies worldwide as of 30th June 2022, while competitor Street Fighter 5 sold 6.8 million copies so far.

The first Tekken game was released by Namco in 1994 and since then it has seen a number of iterations including collaborations with Street Fighter in 2012’s Street Fighter X Tekken and the Pokemon franchise with Pokkén Tournament released in 2015. Tekken also entered the mobile gaming space Tekken Card Tournament in 2013 and Tekken Mobile in 2018.

Bandai Namco first released a teaser for Tekken 8 during EVO 2022, before officially announcing the game back in September during Sony's State of Play presentation. The game will be the first fighting game made using the Unreal Engine 5. The developer teased Tekken 8 with another trailer shown recently during The Game Awards.

The game is expected to come out sometime in 2023 and will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows.
