The first open qualifier of the VCT Game Changers for the Asia Pacific region started earlier this month on 9th March. More than 70 teams had registered for this tournament from three different regions - South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.
After hard-fought four days and six rounds of a unique swiss system format, the top eight teams competed in the main event which took place from 15th to 19th March.
Both the Indian organizations, Orangutan Female and Global Esports Phoenix gave it their absolute best shot, the former finishing as the runners-up while the latter had to suffice with a 5th-6th spot.
Orangutan Female - $2500 USD (INR 2,06,344) - 80 Circuit Points
GE Phoenix - $500 (INR 41,269) - 50 Circuit Points
Team SMG was indomitable right from the very first round of the swiss stage qualifiers, finishing with a 6-0 scoreline, not dropping a single map out of the 12 that they played across the six matches.
In total, SMG played 10 matches winning all of them. In terms of maps, they played a total of 22 games winning all of them and maintaining a 100% win rate. These statistics alone go on to show how far ahead they are from the rest of the female competitors in the Asia-Pacific region.
The VCT 2023: Game Changers APAC Open 2 is scheduled to take place from 1st to 11th June with a total prize pool of $10,000 USD and more circuit points up for grabs.
Teams will have to really pull up their socks and improve their overall game, if they want to defeat Team SMG in the next regional open qualifier.
