T1 is hoping to close out the 2022 Spring Split by having a clean run of 18-0.

Fans and spectators of the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) just witnessed history in the making as T1 closed out another successful series against Kwangdong Freecs (KDF) in Week 8 of the 2022 Spring Split. On 11th March, T1 set a new record in the LCK by beating its 14-0 win streak from the 2015 Summer Split when T1 at the time was playing under the SK Telecom T1 banner.

On 6th March, fans celebrated after T1 beat KT Rolster with a clean sweep of 2-0 and equalized its 2015 win streak. This team is now inching closer and closer towards having a perfect split and hopes to close the tournament out with an 18-0 record. With the current standings, T1 is comfortably sitting atop the table, followed by Gen.G in a close second position. At the time of writing, Gen.G had a score of 12-3.

2-1 victory against Kwangdong Freecs

T1 won the first match of the series against KDF and lost the second one. This forced the teams to play the third match of the series.

The first match was closed at 36 minutes and T1’s support Ryu "Keria" Min-seok won the Player of the Game (POG). KDF was in a comfortable lead early on in the match-up as T1 gave up the dragon soul and traded it for the Baron Nashor buff. A series of well-coordinated fights by T1 helped them turn the game on its head, secure the Elder Dragon buff and eventually kill the enemy nexus.

Match 2 of the series was a fairly easy win for KDF. Fans pointed out that the draft by T1 was highly questionable. On a Reddit thread, a user commented, “Galio last pick was so troll that game. KDF has Malphite, Ryze, Leona, and Xin who all will get armor. You are going to need some heavy AP [ability power] threat for T1 at that point.

Even during this loss Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok put forth a stellar performance on the Galio and even managed to turn around a team fight that T1 was losing and mitigate losses.

The highly-anticipated final match of the series lived up to its expectations. T1 had an incredible early game where they were ahead of KDF by almost 6K gold at one point, thanks to the performance of Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong and Keria in the bot lane. This game also brought forth Faker’s mid-lane Kai’Sa. Interestingly, this Kai’Sa pick happened to be Faker’s 71st unique pick in the LCK.

Towards the mid-game phase, KDF put up a solid performance as it managed to kill the carry Jinx and Kai’Sa multiple times. Sadly for them, the team was not able to translate these kills into meaningful wins inside the game and eventually lost the nexus to T1.

LCK standings

Currently, with the second round of the Spring Split still being played out, the following is the league’s standings:

LCK Standings

T1 still has to play against Brion Blade, Liiv Sandbox, and DRX in the coming days to close out the group stage of the split.
