In terms of personal enjoyment, Apex Legends continues to be his favorite BR out there.

Twitch streamer, Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek recently talked about how Apex Legends is the best battle royale game he has played. However, he did add a disclaimer that in terms of competitive play, Fortnite is the best BR out there, ahead of Apex Legends and Warzone. It left his fans confused on why Shroud had two separate number one games for competitive and casual play. Apex Legends has a thriving competitive scene with its ALGS events but it does not seem to make the cut in Shroud’s eyes. It left fans in a lot of confusion and the content creator finally cleared up why he thinks Fortnite is the best competitive BR out there.

Why Shroud thinks Fortnite is the number one battle royale game

Shroud said that Fortnite is the number one battle royale game while Apex Legends is number two. What sets Fortnite apart from other modern battle royales is the building aspect. He explained that every battle royale’s fights in competitive are overshadowed by third parties, but not in Fortnite.

For those who are new to battle royales, “third-partying” involves not being present to initiate a fight with another team, but stepping in as the third team in an already ongoing fight. With two teams already in combat, it is likely that multiple players are downed or low health, which makes third-partying one of the best ways to win fights in battle royale games. While Apex Legends has attempted to remedy the issue with automatic voicelines that alert players when there is a third team approaching an ongoing fight, it has not done much to remedy the age-old problem in battle royales.

Shroud said that that third-partying is the “worst aspect of any battle royale…you’re fighting, and poking, poking, then you just get railed from the side. Every battle royale has that, every single one. It’s just the nature of the genre.” But Fortnite stands out from the crowd through its building mechanics according to Shroud. He thinks that in Fortnite, “When you win fights it really is just you and your opponents.

However, Apex continues to be his favourite battle royale in terms of personal enjoyment. He has mentioned many times that he would play Fortnite but he prefers Apex because he is not good at building. He said, “I wish I was better at it, or good at all.
