Riot Games Is Donating Battle Pass Sales to Humanitarian Relief in Ukraine
Russia's attack began with Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing he would carry out "a special military operation" in Ukraine. Russia has launched a devastating attack and its forces are shelling and bombing city centers, forcing people to flee the country and take refuge in bomb shelters. Many esports organizations and teams have rallied together to support Ukraine at this time of crisis.
Now, Riot Games made an announcement that it would be donating the proceeds from the sales of battle passes across its different game titles to humanitarian relief in Eastern Europe. Additionally, Riot would also be donating $1 Million USD across three humanitarian nonprofits over and above the player-supported fundraiser.
Supporting humanitarian relief efforts in the affected region
Riot Games wrote in a release, “The war in Ukraine has caused an expanding humanitarian crisis. Since it began, we’ve heard from players around the world that they want to help—and so do we.”
It further elaborated that all the proceeds from the sales of battle passes for Valorant, Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift would be donated for the cause. Riot also added that the sales of the new Bee skin line in League of Legends for champions Orianna, Ziggs, Heimerdinger, and Nunu & Willump would also account for the fundraiser.
Battle pass rates in each of these games:
Legends of Runeterra - 975 coins
Wild Rift - 590 Wild Cores
Teamfight Tactics - 1295 RP
Valorant - 1,000 VP
Cost of Bee line skins in League of Legends:
Orbeeanna - 1350 RP
BZZZiggs - 1350 RP
Nunu & Beelump - 1350 RP
Heimerstinger - 1350 RP
The statement from Riot also stated that the proceeds from the sales made between 5th March and 12th March would be donated for the relief measures.
Donating to Nonprofits
Riot Games stated that it was also donating $1 Million USD across three humanitarian nonprofits and they are as follows:
International Medical Corps
Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders
Polish Red Cross
International Medical Corps provides training and delivers emergency health care and related services to those affected by conflict, natural disaster, and disease and Riot Games has “forward funded” its disaster relief each year with International Medical Corps since 2015. Likewise, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. Also, the Red Cross Societies in surrounding countries of Ukraine, with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), are assisting people in Ukraine with shelter, basic aid items and health services.
