Highlights
Valorant agent Phoenix took over the game's Instagram account for a day.
It is unknown if the takeover was meant to generate hype for the game's newest agent KAY/O or a different event altogether.
The account's profile photo and description have been restored but Phoenix's posts are still present.

The official Valorant Instagram account was taken over by Phoenix since 17 June. The agent seemingly took over the social media account and fans spotted the profile picture being changed as well as the profile description. The updated profile included a photo of Phoenix and a description that said “Don’t worry guys, they say I’m a prodigy. Not my words, not my words baby.” The profile has been restored to the original profile photo and description but the posts made by “Phoenix” are still there in case fans want to check him out.

The official Valorant Instagram account has been restored

After hours of posts from the account featuring photos around Phoenix, the account has now been restored. Some of the posts that were made during the takeover include a selfie of Phoenix with the caption “keep a healthy distance. I burn hot.” The takeover was likely meant to be a promotion for the game’s latest agent KAY/O who was revealed yesterday.

The new agent hates Radiants according to the official lore and agents like Phoenix might be in danger. Riot Games never revealed why the Phoenix takeover happened on social media. It remains to be seen if there is some hidden meaning behind the recent social media posts or if it was just to get some engagement on social media before the release of KAY/O.

This is not the first time that Riot Games’ social media accounts were “compromised.” Killjoy took over the official Valorant Twitter accounts for multiple regions not too long ago. The takeover coincided with the first teaser that dropped for the new agent KAY/O while Phoenix’s takeover coincides with the launch of the game’s latest agent.

In the official lore, Phoenix is a Radiant from the United Kingdom who can make use of self-made flames. He loves to banter and provides comic relief in the appearances he has made in the lore videos posted by Riot Games so far. He was the ninth member to join the Valant Protocol. It is believed that the agent burnt down his school or college based on the lore entry in the Firestarter player card from his agent contract.

Regardless of what Riot Games might be up to, fans liked the posts by “Phoenix” and we may get similar instances of social media takeovers considering the engagement it generated within the Valorant community.
