Paper Rex Defeats DRX to Win VCT 2023 Pacific League, Something Named MVP
Immunity to kryptonite finally attained. 🔥
An intense grand final occurred between Paper Rex and DRX earlier today marking the end of the VCT 2023 Pacific League. The best-of-five series went down to the wire as both teams showed grit and gave it their absolute best to be crowned as the best Valorant team from Asia Pacific.
Paper Rex walked away as the eventual champions of the Pacific region, clawing its way back from a two-match deficit to claim the series with a 3-2 scoreline.
The newest member of the team, Ilya "something" Petrov, had a huge role to play in the team's overall success for which he was named as the MVP of the grand finals.
Paper Rex mounts a valiant comeback to defeat DRX and win the VCT 2023 Pacific League
There seems to be a shift in the power rankings within the APAC region as Paper Rex has finally grown a tolerance to its eternal kryptonite, DRX, having defeated them twice in the playoffs.
Paper Rex was the reason DRX dropped down to the lower back final and though they were able to defeat T1 with a 3-2 scoreline to grab a spot in the grand final, it was not enough as they failed to push through to claim the trophy,
Fracture - PPRX lose to DRX on its map pick with a 13-6 scoreline
Ascent - DRX defeats PPRX on its map pick with a 16-14 scoreline
Lotus - PPRX defeats DRX on its map pick with a 13-3 scoreline
Pearl - DRX lose to PPRX on its map pick with a 13-8 scoreline
Bind - PPRX defeats DRX on the decider map with a 13-6 scoreline
DRX took an early lead by securing back-to-back wins on Fracture and Ascent, putting Paper Rex on the backfoot. However, the experienced team did not buckle under the pressure and stayed calm to mount a successful comeback.
Paper Rex registered wins on Lotus, Pearl, and Bind which resulted in an inspiring and memorable performance. The best part is that it also marks a paradigm shift in the regional power rankings as Paper Rex proves that they have cracked the formula to defeat the giants from Korea.
Despite being the latest member to join the team, something has lived up to his reputation of being an extremely talented player while quickly adjusting to the team's workflow.
Fracture | 12/13/10 | 170
Ascent | 30/20/4 | 271
Lotus | 14/7/1 | 239
Pearl | 17/12/7 | 233
Bind | 22/12/3 | 292
His consistent performance in the grand final has resulted in him being named the MVP with an overall K/D/A of 95/64/25 and ACS (Average Combat Score) of 241 across all five maps.
With this, the two-month-long tournament comes to an end and Paper Rex has been crowned as the champions after a second-place finish during the regular season followed by an impressive performance in the subsequent playoffs.
The top three teams, Paper Rex, DRX, and T1 have managed to qualify for both the VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo and the Valorant Champions 2023, it will be interesting to see which team from the region will bag the one remaining slot for the grand year-end tournament.
