The existing Battle.net players can continue playing Overwatch 2 like before meanwhile, the new players that are introduced to the game via Steam can download it on the platform itself and join in on the action.
Those joining Overwatch 2 via Steam will still be required to connect the game to a Battle.net account for enabling cross-platform play. This is standard procedure for all games coming to the platform from outside.
Some advantages that players will enjoy on Steam are platform-specific features like Steam Achievements and Steam Friend List.
Mike Ybarra - President of Blizzard Entertainment says, “It’s our goal at Blizzard to listen to players and try to exceed their expectations in everything we do. While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.”
Gabe Newell - President of Valve says, "Gamers and developers are both going to benefit from Overwatch 2 coming to Steam. Gamers will have another platform where they can play a beloved game that utilizes the capabilities of Steam, and developers will benefit from the effects of having the talented team at Blizzard helping us evolve our supported features and functionality for Overwatch 2."
The upcoming Overwatch 2 Season 6: Invasion is going to introduce a lot of new things like the highly awaited PvE (Player versus Environment) story mode, a new PvP (Player versus Player) game mode called Flashpoint, a new Support hero, a new battle pass, and a whole lot more.
