Riot Games is back at it again with its unusual ways of teasing upcoming champions in League of Legends. As we all know, the next champion to grace Summoner’s Rift is a Void jungler. This new jungler is supposedly called Bel'Veth, the Void Empress, who was teased by Riot Games in the League of Legends Season 2022 Opening Day livestream and in the Champion Roadmap.
Ahead of official teases and reveals, the champion’s name, her model, and her ability kit had been leaked on social media platforms. This time around it looks like Riot has taken it upon itself to introduce the Void Empress to the community, by adding elements to other Void champions in League of Legends.
Kai’Sa’s splash art is corrupted
If you head over to Kai’Sa’s lore page on the League of Legends Universe website, you will notice changes to her splash art. Kai’Sa is now completely surrounded by shimmering creatures from the void that are swarming around her, making it look like a hostile takeover. You should be able to see “fish” like creatures gearing up to attack her in the background, tentacles, and also a glowing butterfly.
Notably, an identical swarm of creatures can be spotted on Kassadin’s splash art as well, on the top.
It is vital to note these swarms, as these creatures could be a part of Bel'Veth’s ability kit. Last week on 11th May, Bel'Veth’s supposed abilities were leaked and her passive is called Death In Lavender.
Bel'Veth Passive: Death In Lavender
All enemy units including champions, jungle camps, epic monsters, siege, and super minions drop a “coral” when they die. Bel'Veth can collect these drops to stack her passive - Death in Lavender. This passive forms a swarm, based on the stacks. It grants her lifesteal against jungle camps and if Bel’Veth attacks a turret or an epic monster, she sends her swarm to it, healing her and damaging it. It consumes all stacks.
So maybe the swarms spotted in Kai’Sa and Kassadin’s splash arts could indicate the arrival of Bel'Veth in League of Legends and Runeterra.
Kai’Sa’s splash art is interactive
Players can hover over Kai’Sa’s splash art on the Universe page and spot two interactive spots. The first interactive element in the Kai’Sa splash art is the butterfly. Clicking on this butterfly will open up a teaser trailer that shows Bel'Veth addressing a “prophet.” The video is titled “Message To The Prophet Of The Void” and she says the Empress has arrived and that the prophet will witness his reward - “the end of everything.”
The video portrays a land that resembles Shurima and soon pans over to the iconic Sun Disk which is overrun by void creatures, tentacles, and a sea of purple. The video then cuts to Malzahar laughing and the third eye of another Void person.
The second teaser can be found by clicking on the area near Kai’Sa’s right eye and this action will redirect players to another video titled “Message to the Eye of the Void.” This video shows Bel'Veth, the Void Empress, taking over Vel’Koz with her swarm of voidlings. She says, “I am the Void and I will remake all of Runeterra.”
Both these unlisted teasers also include a humanoid face with glowing purple eyes and a third eye on the Void person’s forehead.
What do we know about Bel'veth?
The LoL Champion Roadmap stated that the Void Jungler, Bel'Veth, will be a skirmisher and that those who “submit to her” willingly will be rewarded by becoming a part of the “ever-expanding Lavender Sea.”
Riot said, “Give in to your Empress and let her feed on your essence, so you may become part of the new evolution of Runeterra. And as an added bonus, if you succumb to her you will also bear witness to her true elegance, her true beauty, and the true face of the Void.”
This kind of teased that Bel'Veth may have two forms since Riot said players will witness her true beauty if they succumb to her. The leaks that showed her champion model in-game showed that the Void Empress has two forms, the base form where she has a human head and another where she embodies a monster from the depths of the Void.
The humanoid face that was spotted in the two teasers is likely the human form of Bel'Veth. Riot Games has not yet revealed the exact date for the release of the new Void champion.
