With so much at stake on this patch, let us take a closer look at all that is changing in LoL Patch 14.8, including champion buffs, nerfs, and adjustments.

LoL Patch 14.8: Roles At a Glance

Given that this is the patch that the Mid-Seasonal Invitational (MSI 2024) will be played on, there will be more changes directed at competitive play. This patch focuses on system updates to Voidgrubs, Baron Nashor, and many champions including Mordekaiser, who's ultimate is getting a huge counterplay change.

According to Riot Phroxzon, the top lane meta is varied and diverse with a good, healthy mix of champions from different classes. As a result, they are not looking to change things up.

Meanwhile, in the jungle role, Riot Games is looking to add a few more carries into the mix. It also acknowledged that AP junglers are lacking presence and thus Riot is adding Sylas as an exciting jungle flex pick.

Talking about Azir's nerfs, Phroxzon noted that this was aimed at diversifying the mid-lane meta which is reliant on AP mages at the moment.

For the bot lane, the dev said, "We’re seeing a good range of early, supportive and late oriented marksmen available, and just trying to open up a few more situational picks with Jhin, Kai’sa and Draven.

Having said all that, here are all the champion buffs in LoL Patch 14.8:

  • Akali

  • Draven

  • Galio

  • Graves

  • Gwen

  • Hwei

  • Jarvan IV

  • Jhin

  • Kai’Sa

  • LeBlanc

  • Olaf

  • Ryze

  • Sylas

  • Thresh

  • Viego

  • Yone

Meanwhile, the nerfs are directed at the following champions in LoL Patch 14.8:

  • Azir

  • Briar

  • Zac

  • Zeri

Mordekaiser and Skarner are the only two champions who are getting their kits adjusted in LoL Patch 14.8. Hands down, the Mordekaiser change is probably one of the biggest buffs he's had in years as his ultimate, Realm of Death, will not be “QSS’able” from LoL patch 14.8 onwards. Explaining this, Riot Phroxzon said, "He has too much counterplay especially in the higher ranks, and experientially, if you’re picking Morde, you want this portion of his kit to be effective."
