Riot Games’ first foray into mainstream entertainment with its League of Legends TV show ‘Arcane’ has proven to be a massive success. After getting positive reviews from fans and critics alike, the show has now managed to secure nine awards in even categories at the annual Annie Awards. The categories Arcane won in include Writing, Animated Effects, Character Animation, Character Design, Production Design, Storyboarding, and Directing.

Arcane is Riot Games’ entry into mainstream media

Riot Games has always put out stellar cinematics and music for its games and esports events. While the publisher has worked with top artists from mainstream media including Imagine Dragons, Madison Beer, Jaira Burns, and others, none of its content was targeted at the non-gaming communities. But with Arcane, the publisher struck a chord with the general public and the show has become a massive hit. The main attraction of Arcane is that it can be enjoyed by anyone even if they do not know anything about League of Legends or the Runeterra universe.

Arcane is one of the highest-rated TV shows of all time and Riot Games has the opportunity to craft it into one of the most loved TV series ever made. At the Annie Awards, Arcane took home the following awards:

  • Directing, TV

  • Storyboarding, TV

  • General TV Production

  • Writing, TV

  • Voice Acting, TV

  • Animated Effects, TV

  • Character Animation, TV

  • Character Design, TV

  • Production Design, TV

League of Legends ‘Arcane’ is an animated TV series based on League of Legends’ Runeterra universe. The story explores the childhood of Jinx (Powder) and Vi while also showcasing the politics between Piltover and Zaun. Both fictional cities have a stark contrast between them with Piltover being a utopia with advancements in science and technology. Zaun on the other hand is a dystopian city where slum dwellers struggle to survive.

By the end of Act 1, we see Vi and Powder having a fallout which leaves Powder vulnerable and open to manipulation. The next two acts will highlight Powder’s descent into madness as she transforms into Jinx. The show also features characters like Heimerdinger, Ekko, Jayce, Viktor, Caitlyn, and other characters from the Runeterra universe. Season Two is already in the works but there is no known release date just yet.
