League of Legends preseason will bring quite a few changes to the game.
Riot Games is giving the Inspiration and Precision rune trees some changes.

The League of Legends 2022 preseason is coming to the game in patch 11.23 and will introduce some major changes, including new runes, two new dragons and several other items and gameplay updates. The preseason will bring in new mythic items for mages and supports along with a new objective bounty system which will increase a team’s comeback potential on securing dragons and Baron from behind. Riot is also adding new challenges to make non-ranked grinds more meaningful. Along with the many changes lined up, Riot Games has decided to change up Lethal Tempo in the Precision tree and give the Inspiration tree a bit of a rework. Here is how the new runes will function in League of Legends Season 12.

Riot Reworks Precision and Inspiration Rune Trees

The runes system will see a few new additions and changes to increase the impact of certain rune paths.

Inspiration Tree Rework: Glacial Augment and First Strike

The Inspiration Tree had previously gotten an overhaul in patch 9.23 when Kleptomancy was replaced by Prototype: Omnistone. Now Riot has decided to remove Prototype: Omnistone and add a damage centric First Strike keystone to the tree. Damaging an enemy champion with an attack or ability before they do, or within 0.25s of the start of combat, grants 5 gold and First Strike for 3 seconds, causing your attacks or abilities to deal 12% bonus damage against all champions, and granting (100% melee / 70% Ranged) of bonus damage dealt as gold. The keystone’s cooldown is 25-15s (based on level).

First Strike is a new Inspiration Keystone that gives you a huge advantage when you strike an enemy champion first (or, technically, within a very short window time at the start of champion combat). In addition to the extra damage, the extra gold lets you reach item breakpoints at unexpected times. It's designed for players who want more strategic, long-term output from their runes in addition to an immediate mechanical boost.

Riot decided to put First Strike in the Inspiration tree despite historically shying away from putting damage options into this tree because it was meant to be about creative tools and rule-bending. However, according to Riot, many past Inspiration keystones hadn’t delivered on that and were pigeonholed onto specific champions. With First Strike Riot hopes to provide value to a broad range of players rather than a specific class.

Glacial Augment is also getting a buff. With the rework, immobilizing an enemy champion will cause 3 glacial rays to emanate from them towards you and other nearby champions, creating frozen zones for a few seconds that slow enemies for 40% and reduce their damage by 15% against your allies (not including yourself).

Precision Tree: Changes to Lethal Tempo

Lethal Tempo now behaves similar to Guinsoo’s Rageblade. Players now gain attack speed for 6 seconds when striking at least one enemy champion with each attack. This effect stacks up to 6 times. While this effect is at its cap, also gain attack range and increase your attack speed cap to 3.0. Champions that rely heavily on attack speed like Kog’Maw will benefit greatly from the changed Lethal Tempo.

The changes have gone live on the PBE server and are expected to hit League in patch 11.23, expected to drop on Wednesday, Nov 17, 2021.
