League of Legends Patch 13.4 Introduces a New Warding Indicator to Help Players
Placing wards and getting your team some crucial vision around the map is very important in League of Legends. While warding is often delegated to the support player in the team, every other player also needs to have a proper understanding of how warding works and where to place these wards on the map. Placing vision trinkets, wards, and control wards inside the bushes and in the jungle opening seems straightforward but there are plenty of tricks when it comes to actually dropping these wards. Players, for years, have studied the pixels on Summoner’s Rift and have deduced the art of placing wards over the walls and little waterfalls in the game’s environment.
To help players understand where they drop these wards and to make sure that the wards don’t get misplaced, Riot Games has introduced a new warding indicator in LoL Patch 13.4.
Here’s everything you need to know about the warding indicator that made its way into League of Legends (LoL) via Patch 13.4.
Warding Indicator in LoL Patch 13.4
If you have been playing League of Legends long enough, you might remember former pro player William "scarra" Li trying to ward the tribush in the bottom lane from the dragon pit. While his thought process and intent were right, he failed two or three times trying to place that ward. This warding technique infamously came to be known as the “Scarra ward” in League of Legends.
Likewise, there are a few other tough spots to place wards on the bottom lane. For example, if you are on the red side of the map, you can place a ward into the river bush leading to the bottom lane from near the red tower in bot. All you have to do is place the ward in the small waterfall (left-most) in the wall to your left, and the ward will get pushed onto the bush.

But sometimes, in the heat of the moment, while focusing on the combat and dodging skill shots in the lane, players fail to place this ward properly and end up warding the lane. To prevent such mistakes and to help players use their wards effectively and efficiently, Riot Games has brought forth a warding indicator in LoL Patch 13.4.
In the LoL Patch 13.4 notes, in the mid-patch update, the developers wrote, “Added ward placement indicators (similar to quick cast indicators) which will display where a ward will be placed before actually placing it.”
While this warding indicator has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the community, some players joked about how this mechanic is thirteen years late. Some of them commented that their secrets of warding and hours of practice have been made easy by Riot Games.
One Redditor wrote, “People spent years mastering the right ward[ing] spot and now everyone can do it easily. SMH. Rito strikes again after jungle path, skill order, and recommend rune. SMH"
If you are looking for the warding indicator, all you have to do is click on the warding item slot number and you will notice an evident change in your mouse cursor when you try to ward.
