Janna VFX Changes Now Live on the League of Legends PBE

One of the oldest champions in League of Legends – Janna – is getting a visual makeover as Riot Games rolled out a visual effects (VFX) update for her on the Public Beta Environment (PBE). Though not spotted on the Summoner’s Rift that frequently now, Janna was a strong enchanter support during the Ardent’s Censer meta a few years back. Notably, her kit has also remained the same for the most part with the only changes revolving around the powers of her W - Zephyr and E - Eye of the Storm abilities.

Riot Games has now lined up a vital update that would bring Janna’s visuals on par with the new champions and others that just received a VFX themselves. According to the company, VFX updates are small-scale improvements that are meant for sprucing up some of the oldest champions in the League of Legends roster. The VFX updates are usually done to upgrade overall gameplay consistency, readability, and graphics quality, all the while elevating the champions’ thematics and resonance.

Riot also added that VFX updates are not like Visual and Gameplay Updates (VGU) and Art and Sustainability Updates (ASU), and are shipped faster. “Unlike VGUs, VFX updates only affect the visual effects of a given champion, not all of a champ’s visuals. Most of the time, VFX are the spells they cast or the effects that play around them when they emote.”

What are the changes lined up for Janna?

Riot Games and its developers have posted the changes lined up for Janna via a Reddit post seeking feedback from the players and the community. The post read, “Hi, y'all! I'm Patrick (or Pehrek), a QA Engineer on League's Champs team, and I've come here in search of some feedback on Janna's VFX Update!”

From the preview video that the company had posted, it is evident that all of her spells look different and are easy to notice.

• Base Janna: Complete Overhaul

• Tempest Janna: Same as base

• Hextech Janna: Complete Overhaul

• Frost Queen Janna: Complete Overhaul

• Victorious Janna: Complete Overhaul

• Forecast Janna: Complete Overhaul

• Fnatic Janna: Same as base, but with a custom W

• Star Guardian Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R

• Sacred Sword Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R

• Bewitching Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R

• Guardian of the Sands Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R

• Battle Queen Janna: Adding impact effect to Q, new healing VFX on R

• Crystal Rose Janna: Adding impact effect to Q, new healing VFX on R

• Cyber Halo Janna: Adding impact effect to Q, new healing VFX on R

• Prestige Cyber Halo Janna: Adding impact effect to Q, new healing VFX on R

After considering player feedback and more testing on the PBE. The changes will go live on LoL Patch 12.19.
