Twitter just released its gaming and esports insights for the first half of 2021 and there are some interesting statistics for esports fans globally. Last year, there were over 2 billion tweets on the platform about gaming and esports and Twitter talked about how there has been an 18% increase in tweets about gaming in the first half of 2021. Call of Duty, Fortnite, Valorant and Apex Legends are among the most popular esports titles on the platform and Overwatch continues to be popular despite a lack of content updates. Here are some of the most talked about games and esports personalities from this year.

Asian countries tweet the most about gaming on Twitter

The number one country that tweets about gaming is Japan with United States at second place. Asian countries dominate Twitter when it comes to esports and gaming with Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and India taking up five out of the top ten spots in the ‘Countries Tweeting Most About Gaming’ category in Twitter’s esports and gaming insights for 2021.

Twitter talked about how there is an 18% increase in engagement in gaming and esports categories compared to 2020. And with the return if live events after the global pandemic pushed gaming events online, social media engagement is likely to grow even more.

Fortnite esports stars continue to dominate Twitter engagement

The top three most talked about esports athletes are Mongraal, Benjyfish and Bugha all of who are competitive Fortnite players. CS:GO pro FalleN takes the number four spot while COD veteran Scump has the number five spot. TenZ climbed his way to the number seven spot after having a successful first-half of 2021 with Sentinels. The player won the Valorant Masters event at Iceland and will be looking to be a part of the first-ever VCT Champions squad later this year at the VCT main event.

Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL) is the most talked about esports event so far. The Brazilian League of Legends championship sits above the likes of Call of Duty League, Overwatch League and Valorant Champions Tour. LOUD Esports and paiN Gaming are among the top teams in CBLOL and they take up the number one and two spots respectively in the ‘Most Tweeted About Esports Team’ list.

Apex Legends is the most tweeted about esports title on Twitter

Apex Legends and Fortnite are the only two esports titles to make it to the ‘Most Tweeted About Video Games’ list. Apex Legends is in the number two spot while Fortnite is in the number five spot. The number one spot is taken by Genshin Impact, an open world game with gacha elements that went viral last year.
