Highlights
Hong "Eraser" Chang-pyo has joined Global Esports to help the team compete in the national and international stage.
Chang-pyo formerly coached DAMWON Gaming throughout the VCT 2021 season.
GE will be looking to bounce back from its exit from VCT Stage One and attempt to qualify for VCT Masters Two.

Global Esports just announced the signing of Hong "Eraser" Chang-pyo as the team coach for its Valorant roster. Chang-pyo is a former professional Fortnite and CS:GO player who transitioned to coaching in Valorant for DAMWON Gaming. Global Esports has its eyes set on Stage Two of the Valorant Champions Tour after being knocked out of contention for a Masters One spot during its run at the Valorant Champions Tour Asia-Pacific (APAC) Challengers Stage One. Chang-pyo might hold the key to GE’s success in the next stage later this year.

Chang-Pyo has international coaching experience

Chang-Pyo has coached aNg DarkHorse for two months in 2020 before he joined DAMWON Gaming. He coached the team from January 2021 to March 2022. His achievements with the team in 2021 include:

  • Top four finish at Valorant First Strike Korea

  • Top two finish at VCT Korea Stage 1 Challengers 1

  • Top two finish at VCT Korea Stage 1 Challengers 3

  • Top four finish at VCT Stage 1 Masters

  • Second place at Korea Stage 2 Challengers

In an exclusive statement to AFK Gaming, Global Esports CEO Rushindra Sinha said that the organization is "big on family and we always say once GE always GE, we had spoken to Eraser a long time back but he was with DWG at the time. I’m glad we’re finally getting the chance to work with Eraser again. We saw how good he was as our Fortnite player and the result he had on the DWG roster as the coach. We are waiting to see his magic on our Valorant roster."

The move to sign Chang-pyo is a long-term goal according to Sinha. The team is looking beyond the VCT 2022 circuit with Stage Two being just a stepping stone.

Global Esports has positioned itself as one of the best teams in the South Asia region but it has failed to prove itself on the international stage in the VCT. The team managed to make it to the APAC Last Chance qualifiers last year and the APAC Challengers One event this year. The team was not able to earn a spot in Valorant’s international events on both occasions.

With Chang-pyo’s addition to the roster, the team might finally be able to edge past the competition and make it to Valorant Stage Two Masters. With Valorant Conquerors Championship set to kick off later this year for Stage Two, Global Esports will be rearing to get back into the competition.
