G2 Esports Fields a New All-Female League of Legends Team: G2 Hel
G2 Esports announced on 1st September that it was fielding an all-female League of Legends roster called G2 Hel. The team’s name draws inspiration from Norse mythology and Hel is a powerful goddess and the daughter of Loki. G2 Hel features some of the biggest names in the League of Legends scene and is sure to make a mark in women empowerment in esports alongside G2’s other all-female team in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Game Changers scene: G2 Gozen.
In a press release, G2 Esports said, “With our LEC roster at the top of their game, we decided 2 League of Legends rosters is better than one, so we are proud to welcome to the family, G2 Hel.”
G2 Hel: The squad
The organization introduced the G2 Hel roster as one of the top female teams in the world. G2 Hel comprises some of the “most prominent” female players in League of Legends. The players are as follows:
Top: Olivia “Lizia” Calistua
Jungle: Agnė “Karina” Ivaškevičiūtė
Mid: Alena “TIFA” Maurer
Attack Damage Carry (ADC): Maya “Caltys” Henckel
Support: Ève “Colomblbl” Monvoisin
Talking about this new addition, G2 Esports said that the formation of G2 Hel is part of its continued efforts to provide top gamers with the opportunity to compete at the highest levels, irrespective of their gender, and to support them as they grow as players and entertainers.
ADC player Caltys said, “Since I started my esports journey I've only had two goals in mind: to be the best and play with the best. I still have a long way to go, but joining G2 is a big step in the right direction. It's very exciting to be a part of, literally, the best esport organization in Europe and I couldn't imagine better teammates to start this next chapter with.”
G2 Esports’ Founder and CEO Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez also stated that G2 builds teams and brings in top players based on skill, talent, and brand fit regardless of gender or orientation. “As is the case with all of our teams, they’ll [G2 Hel] have our full support and we’re excited for them to help us fill our cabinet with more League of Legends trophies, in fact, they already won a trophy before they were even announced!”
Notably, the team, before being signed by G2 Esports, won the women’s GirlGamer Oradea Festival 2022 European League of Legends finals under the tag of Burger Flippers.
Riot Games does not have an official female circuit for League of Legends like it does for Valorant through the Game Changers scene. However, a report by Esports News UK suggested that there may be one coming soon.
