FC Barcelona Announces Its Entry into League of Legends Esports

The event is being hosted by the Video Games League (LVP) and it will feature top Spanish teams like MAD LIONS and G2 Arctic.
The Superliga event will kick off in January 2022 and Barcelona will be competing every Monday and Thursday at 6pm CEST.

Spanish soccer club Barcelona will be competing in 2022’s Superliga which is the biggest League of Legends esports event Spain. The Professional Video Games League (LVP) hosts the event every year and fans saw Vodafone Giants take home the first prize at the event this year. Barcelona has set its sights on next year’s championship and will be going up against some of the best teams in Spain in a bid to win the Superliga. Barcelona entered esports two years ago and it has three other teams competing in eFootball, Rocket League and Hearthstone.

Barcelona will compete only in “non-violent” esports titles

Barcelona is the biggest soccer club in the world with a valuation of $4.76 Billion by Forbes. The club has expanded beyond traditional sports and has found itself involved in multiple esports titles. The club revealed in the official announcement that it seeks to be “a main player in the digital esports sector worldwide in the next few years, building a leading division to help connect the Club and its philosophy to new audiences.”

The club will be participating in non-violent games only which means that a Barcelona esports roster for Valorant or CS:GO is out of the question. The team seeks to use its position in the esports industry to promote gender equality and share its valued with both players and fans.

Barcelona is yet to officially reveal its League of Legends roster

Barcelona's entry into Superliga next year means that the roster will go up against the likes of MAD LIONS and G2 Arctic, who are prominent teams in the region. The official roster has not been revealed by the organization but a report by 2Playbook claims that the former S2V Esports roster will be acquired by Barcelona.

Superliga 2022 is set to commence in January 2022 and fans will be able to watch the matches live every Monday and Thursday on Spanish broadcasting platform UBEAT at 6 PM CEST.
