North American esports organisation, Evil Geniuses (EG) has partnered with Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C, also known as Wolves. The Wolves’ majority stakeholders, the Fosun Sports Group have decided to invest $225 million USD into Evil Geniuses. The partnership has led to Wolves' branding being featured on Evil Geniuses’ uniforms, and the Evil Geniuses’ logo will feature a splash of gold during the launch. The Wolves will work with the esports team for content creation and access to local training facilities in China. The EG x Wolves partnership also includes setting up a training base for the League of Legends World Championship, if the team qualifies.
Founded in 1999, Evil Geniuses has won 86 national and 102 international championship titles. The organization currently has rosters for League of Legends, Dota 2, CS:GO, and Valorant.
Wolves’ General Manager of Marketing & Commercial Growth, Russell Jones, said:
“This is an incredibly exciting partnership for Wolves and Wolves Esports. We have very lofty ambitions in esports, and this partnership allows us to learn from the very best.”
Evil Geniuses’ Chief Executive Officer, Nicole LaPointe Jameson, said:
“We are thrilled to partner with Wolves, a storied football club and strong sports and entertainment brand that aligns with our values and mission."
In the ongoing League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Summer 2021 group stage, EG is sitting in fourth place behind 100 Thieves, TSM, and Cloud9 on the leaderboards. After starting off with three losses in the first week, the team has made a comeback and is looking to be a strong contender.
