Crocs Partners With 100T League of Legends After LCS Fine Fiasco
What's up with Riot Games & crocs?
! If I had a nickel for every time a League of Legends series was disturbed by Crocs, we'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. If you recall correctly, on 29th September, Day 2 of Worlds 2022 saw a delay in the proceedings. This was because Evil Geniuses’ mid-laner Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun wore crocs on stage.
This year a similar incident took place in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2024 Spring Split. This time, however, there was not a delay but a fine involved. 100 Thieves’ top-laner Rayan “Sniper” Shoura was fined a cool $5,000 USD from Riot Games for wearing Crocs last week during the LCS Spring Split. Following this, the shoe manufacturer has come forward to take up the fine on itself and also sponsor 100 Thieves League of Legends.
Crocs Partners with 100 Thieves LoL
While League of Legends and its pro scene is heated and features some insane matchups, fans also live for the off-stage drama that take place every now and then. Last week, 100T top-laner Sniper wore Crocs to the LCS, flouting the open-toe shoe policy that Riot Games has in place, and received a $5000 USD fine.
According to Riot's rules for Player and Coach Apparel, “Players must wear pants and closed-toe shoes, as well as visible team-branded apparel, on their upper body..."
Despite the fine, on the last day of the LCS Spring 2024 regular season, the entire 100T player roster appeared on stage for their match against NRG, all sporting closed-toed Crocs.
Right after this incident, 100T and Crocs announced a new partnership, some even questioning whether this collaboration was already in the works given how quickly it was done.
Starting this partnership off, Crocs covered Sniper’s fine and gifted 10 pairs of its footwear to League of Legends fans in the US.
Announcing this new partnership, 100 Thieves said, “We are proud to announce our partnership with Crocs, an iconic footwear brand in culture. This collaboration comes on the heels of Riot Games' fining 100 Thieves and Sniper, $5k for sporting the open-toe Crocs Classic Slide 2.0 during the second match of the final Spring Split Super Week competition this past weekend."
It added, "Crocs answered 100 Thieves' call and will be covering the fines for 100 Thieves and Sniper and will continue to be a proud partner of the LCS team. Be on the lookout for future moments in this amazing partnership.”
