Respawn Entertainment has announced that it is indefinitely pausing all Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) events due to the current invasion of Ukraine by Russia. All ALGS matches across multiple regions in the globe have been postponed. Several Apex Legends pros worldwide had called on for this weekend’s upcoming Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Pro League matches to be postponed.

Apex Legends Esports’ Twitter handle wrote, “In light of the events unfolding in Ukraine, we are pausing all ALGS competition. We will provide an update for when tournaments will resume as soon as we can.

This announcement comes at a time when Riot Games has also announced that it was postponing the third week of Valorant Champions Tour matches in the EMEA region in the wake of the Ukrainian crisis.

Many players based in Ukraine

According to a report by Dot Esports, the league has several players based in Ukraine, some in the capital of Kyiv, and at least one based in Kharkiv. Both cities were attacked on 24th Feb.

Kirill “9impulse” Kostiv, who is currently playing for ZETA DIVISON wrote on Twitter that he finally found a bus and was on his way to Lviv. He took to Twitter to record his journey of traveling from Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Apex Legends pro for Natus Vincere Oleksander “Sanya” Bokuchava wrote on Twitter, “Got some sleep. Got some food. Right now running is not an option. Going to hunker down in the bomb shelter in my building. Most likely no signal there, but we'll see. Sending love to all who is affected by this shitstorm. Stay safe and vigilant. Good luck.”

Several Apex Legends players voiced their concerns on social media and asked for the tournament to be postponed.

Earlier on 24th Feb, Croatian player Dan “rpr” Ušić wrote on Twitter, “Postpone the pro league out of respect and support for our CIS counterparts… we should not be playing while our peers are suffering.

Pro player Ivan "KRYP" Mendez also concurred and stated that it would not be fair to ask players living in Ukraine and Russia to play while their security is being affected.

RebelGG pro player Martin “Pjeh” Aamyri posted on Twitter that the Apex Legends pros in the EMEA region have decided to postpone competitive play and practice. He wrote, “We in the EMEA pro community of Apex Legends have decided to postpone everything competitive which includes practice and hopefully the people in charge of the ALGS will realize that we will not play during these times.

However, the ALGS administration made the decision to call off the tournament. Respawn Entertainment has yet to reveal the new schedule but fans can keep tabs on the official social media handles of Apex Legends Esports for further updates.
