Valorant has been plagued with cheaters, and Riot is trying to bring things under control. But it looks like cheating is not only common in ranked but also competitive play. Last week, we reported pro player Xhade from India cheating, which led him to be disqualified from The Esports Club Invitational. Today, we have pro player ReFleck, who was caught cheating against the all-female Dignitas roster.
ReFleck Was Banned Mid-Scrims
The aspiring pro player was caught cheating and was banned during the middle of a match against Dignitas. Since the incident, he has deleted/deactivated his social media accounts. Accusations against him were brought up by Juliana "Showliana" Maransaldi, a Dignitas Female member who shared the news on Twitter. A “hacker detected” screen popped up during the screen, leading to the cancellation of the match.
Juliana’s teammate Amanda “Rain” Smith confirmed the incident and said that it happened during the middle of their scrims. It led to an investigation by the Anti-Cheat Police Department, an independent group that investigates cheating allegations. They confirmed that ReFleck was indeed cheating and could hit rank 7 in the competitive ladder, potentially through the use of wallhacks and aimbotting.
The group revealed, “The player known as @ReFleckFPS has been banned live in a scrim against the female team of @dignitas the player was rank 7 seems like vanguard is just on a roll to finding these closet”. Following the group’s confirmation, ReFleck’s official information on websites like Liquipedia and vlr.gg were nowhere to be seen. It is unlikely that he will be able to compete in competitive Valorant in the future.
Riot Games has been struggling to deal with cheaters recently. The studio has teamed up with Destiny 2 studio Bungie to take on Gator Cheats, an infamous cheater maker company that offers cheats for Valorant and Destiny 2. Updates to Valorant’s anti-cheat system Vanguard are expected to be in the works as Riot Games has acknowledged an increase in the number of cheaters over the past two months.
Riot’s RayKay talked about the issue earlier this month, stating, “Hey sorry about the cheating we are aware and bans are incoming. While we can never stop all cheating, we want to make sure that it does not affect your ranked progress. Our team is looking to make many improvements this year based on the feedback we received and the hard lessons we learned last year. Keep those reports and feedback coming.”
