  • After Fiddlesticks and Volibear, Dr. Mundo is slated for a VGU due to release in 2021.

Dr. Mundo is officially set to be the next League of Legends champion to undergo a total overhaul, Riot developers confirmed in their Champion Roadmap update. Dr. Mundo was among the top picks nominated for a rework along with Fiddlesticks and Volibear. After their VGUs it's now time for the Madman of Zaun. The VGU is set to release sometime during the early half of 2021.

“This project is very early in development”, Riot’s lead champion producer Ryan ‘Reav3’ Mireles confirmed in the Roadmap update. He said that players can expect to see “a few more new champs” before Dr. Mundo’s rework.  Mireles also confirmed that there will be a post dedicated to the Dr. coming up next week that shows off some of the early explorations of the character’s rework.

The Madman of Zaun was first added to the game in 2009. In the past 11 years, he’s had some changes to his in-game model and his ability pool since his beta days. Riot has not revealed anything else about Dr. Mundo’s release, beyond confirming a 2021 window. Considering Fiddlesticks’ overhaul, and more recently Volibear’s VGU, took nine months, it could be early next year.
