Highlights
Apex Legends' cross-progression is currently restricted to Origin and Steam only with no progression transfer options for consoles.
Respawn is currently working on cross-progression, a next-gen update and a level cap increase.
The update with all these new features was supposed to launch by 2021 but Respawn was hit by delays due to DDOS attacks on Titanfall and Apex.

Apex Legends introduced cross-play earlier this year, which allows players to queue up with anyone on Xbox, PlayStation or PC. But despite the introduction of cross-play, your progress does not carry over if you switch platforms. All of your unlocked legends, premium currency, and cosmetics will become unavailable if you switch to a different platform even if you log in with the same EA account. However, that is set to change with the introduction of cross-progression. Respawn has confirmed that cross-progression is coming to Apex Legends and it is already in the works.

Apex Legends Cross-Progression: Release Date

Currently, cross-progression is available only between Origin and Steam and not with any console platforms. Players can switch between either Origin or Steam while carrying over all data. Only one Steam account may be linked to your EA account in your lifetime and it is important to connect your account to the right Steam ID. If you choose to switch your Steam accounts, you will not be able to carry over your progression and will need to switch to Origin instead.

Cross-progression is not available for Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Xbox, and Sony PlayStation. The feature was initially planned for 2021 but it seems like Respawn has been hit with delays. Apex Legends Game Director Chad Grenier revealed in a Twitch stream that the dev team is still working on but “It’s a lot more work than I thought it would be. But we are working on cross-progression that will allow people to carry over purchases, skins, account progress, regardless of which platform they’re playing on.”

Focused development on the feature was diverted due to attacks on Titanfall and Apex earlier this year. Respawn developers had to work towards preventing DDOS attacks on the game. This led to the cross-progression feature to get delayed. With the year coming to an end and no official update on the feature just yet, players are likely to receive the update in 2022.

Once cross-progression goes live, players will be able to sign into any platform with their existing EA accounts and have all their progress carry over. It is likely that rank will not carry over but all in-game items, badges and account data will be transferable at any time.
