What Is League of Legends Tournament of Souls?

The Tournament of Souls is the brand new in-client meta game that Riot Games has released in LoL Patch 13.14 exclusively to commemorate the 2023 Summer Event of Soul Fighter. Players should remember that the Arena mode and this in-client metagame are interconnected and you will have to play both to access some features of Tournament of Souls. The Tournament of Souls can be accessed under the ‘Home’ tab on the League of Legends client. Riot Games said, “This is where you'll go to chat with the Soul Fighters' biggest fans, claim rewards, and battle your way to the top.”

Tournament of Souls Metagame Explained

When you click on the metagame, you will be greeted by Samira looking at the famed arena from afar. The description reads, “Play League of Legends to build Samira's reputation and style on your competition at the Tournament of Souls! Face off against the strongest soul fighters in a series of fierce 1v1 matches to help Samira chase down her biggest bounty yet and fulfill her SOUL'S DESIRE!”

The goal of this metagame is to build reputation points and take down enemies one after the other. In short, The Tournament of Souls is a fighting game-style metagame that narrates the story of Samira's rise to fame in the Tournament. 

According to the lore, the Soul Fighters are a group of daredevils competing in the Tournament of Souls. The one who wins the tournament will be granted "the deepest desire of their soul."

Upon entering the metagame, you will play as Samira as she is one of the invited Soul Fighters for this year. When you enter the battle as Samira, you will notice that you have three available abilities - Q, W, E and each ability allows Samira to attack with either her guns (Q) or her sword (W, E). 

Every time she switches weapons (guns > sword or sword > guns), she increases her Style by one rank on the following scale: E > D > C > B > A > S. Upon hitting "S", you can use her Ultimate (R). This spell inflicts massive damage and resets the Style meter back to zero. 

Players should note that while playing as Samira against other Soul Fighters, you'll only have a limited amount of time to reduce your opponent's HP to zero before they do the same to you. If either the clock or your HP bar runs out, you will lose the battle and have to try again from the beginning.

What is Reputation in Tournament of Souls?

When you win against an opponent in the 1v1 battle, you will increase a score called ‘Reputation.’ Once you defeat a foe, you will only be able to progress to the next one by earning enough Reputation. In the summer event, players can increase their reputation by simply completing missions in the Soul Fighter Event. 

Here are the opponents you will take on in Tournament of Souls and the number of Reputation you need to fight them:

• Jhin: 0

• Gwen: 4

• Lux: 8

• Naafiri: 12 

• Jhin: 16 

• Pyke: 20

• Evelynn: 24

• Sett: 28

• Shaco: 32

• Viego: 36  

• Surprise opponent: 40

Defeating these champions in the metagame will also give you rewards and unlock Samira’s abilities. Note that you will only start with one option for all of Samira’s abilities and you will unlock more as you progress through the Tournament of Souls.

Here's an overview of Samira's abilities in Soul Fighter's Tournament of Souls:

Q (GUN ABILITIES)

• Quickshot - Fire a fast shot for 160 damage. When used to change weapons, fires twice.

• Piercing Precision - Three piercing shots for a total of 210 damage that break shields and increase the duration of airborne.

• Deadshot - Puncturing shot that deals 70 damage and causes bleeding for 160 damage over 4s. If already bleeding, the initial shot deals 4x damage.

W (SWORD ABILITIES)

• Sky Scraper - Upward slash for 230 damage that sends the enemy airborne.

• Back Atcha - Spin twice for 60 damage, blocking all damage and status effects while reflecting a max of 500 damage back to an opponent for 1s. If Samira blocks 300 damage or greater, gain one additional style point.

• Blade Drain - Slice twice for 175 damage, healing 250 total. If the enemy is wounded, heal double.

E (SWORD ABILITIES)

• Severe Strike - Stab forward for 265 damage inflicting wounded for 4s. If the enemy is bleeding, refresh the bleed duration.

• Twilight Rush - Dash forward for 100 damage, breaking shields, and place a sticky bomb that explodes for 130, damaging all enemies after 2s. Following with a gun ability detonates early, causing the grenade to critically strike.

• Style on ’Em - Slash rapidly, dealing 230 damage, and gain one additional style point. If enemy is airborne, deal 50% bonus damage.

R (NEUTRAL)

• Chaotic Daybreak - Increase crit chance from 25% to 75% for 10s, and unleash a torrent of shots for 700 damage.

• Immortal Inferno - Unleash a torrent of shots for 550 damage, healing a total of 500.
