VAL 5 error code explained

Players can encounter the VAL 5 error message even while they are in the middle of a game or when they are in the queue for a match to pop up. This happens because of server maintenance. If the server maintenance goes live when players are in-game, the game will automatically exit and players will see the Valorant VAL 5 error code message. 

The actual error message reads, “The game has lost connection. Please relaunch the client or restore connectivity. Error Code: VAL 5.

So when you encounter this error, immediately check the server status of Valorant and see if there is scheduled maintenance happening. You can check the server status by going to the Riot Games Service Status website.

The error can also pop up when you account is logged into elsewhere. 

Here are some of the fixes you can try for VAL 5 error code in Valorant.

Log out from all devices: If the error was due to someone else logging into your account while you were using it, you will have to log out of all devices.

Restart client, PC and router: If you have checked the status of Riot Games’ servers and they are all up and running, a quick reboot of the client, PC and your router might be able to fix it.

Run Valorant as administrator: Right click on the Valorant icon and select the Compatibility tab. Here, select ‘Run this program as an administrator’ checkbox and click apply and OK.

Re-installing Vanguard: Vanguard is Riot Games’ anti-cheat software and players often run into errors or bugs due to this software. A lot of Valorant players have speculated that this VAL 5 error code might be because of Vanguard and reinstalling the anti-cheat might solve it.

You can also update your network drivers and close all unnecessary programs from the Task Manager before checking if the game works properly.
