Valorant, Fortnite and Call of Duty players are frequently encountering this error.

Several Valorant players reported facing a Discord 404 error when booting up the game while Discord is open in the background. Fortnite and Call of Duty players have also reported facing Discord 404 error. This error is caused by an in-game overlay glitch on Discord’s end. Some players reached out to Discord on Twitter asking about the error. Discord’s official Twitter account responded saying, “It was unfortunately happening across all games. But if you restart your client, it should be good to go! Let us know if you're still experiencing this though!” Here is how you can fix the Discord 404 error.

How to fix Discord 404 error

Despite Discord’s suggestion that players restart their clients, the error seems to persist. Several players resorted to restarting their systems as well to fix the error but the error will continue to cause issues. The error is caused by a glitch with Discord’s in-game overlay which causes it to block loading screens for games like Valorant, Fortnite and Call of Duty. Discord needs to resolve the 404 error from their end, but the best players can do now is turn off Discord’s in-game overlay through the settings menu in the software. Here is how to resolve the error:

1. Open ‘User Settings' on Discord by clicking the cog icon.

2. Scroll down to the ‘Activity Settings’ tab and select ‘Game Overlay’.

Make sure you toggle off the 'Enable in-game overlay' to temporarily resolve Discord error 404.

3. Toggle the ‘Enable in-game overlay’ off.

After switching the overlay off, players should restart their systems and try starting up their games again. If the error still persists, players can send a bug report to Discord. To report bugs players will need to send in a bug report with details about it to the Bug form or check the Discord Bug Board to see if it's already known.
