Players woke up to a major change in the gaming space as the trading system is now effectively removed from the game. Psyonix, the creative force behind Rocket League, has made the controversial decision to remove player-to-player trading from the game. This was put into effect on 5th December 2023 and this move has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among the player base.
Many have expressed their disapproval of this move and have even declared the game dead after this news.
Here's all we know about the Rocket League Player-to-Player Trading removal.
Player-to-Player Trading Has Come to an End
Rocket League, the ultimate adrenaline-pumping car football game, underwent a significant transformation that has left the entire community in a state of shock and dismay. In Season 13, the game removed the option for players to trade items, completely shattering Rocket League’s economy, which was based on buying and selling in-game cosmetics.
The trading feature of Rocket League was actually one of the most beloved features in the game. It allowed players to directly exchange desirable items with each other. It was utilized to pursue sought after skins in exchange for duplicates amassed over countless hours of gameplay. This feature also bolstered a spirit of comradery and friendship among players as they bartered items with each other.
Unfortunately, Psyonix has made the decision to put this to an end, declaring that this move is taking place to adhere to Epic’s policies. The main reason behind the removal of this feature is Psyonix’s desire to get in line with Epic Games’ policy on in-game cosmetics and item shop policies, where players can’t trade, transfer, or sell items.
In a blog post, Rocket League wrote, “We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable. This opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership.”
This has left players understandably unhappy, and despite excessive backlash, Psyonix remains unfazed. It seems like the decision is irreversible and the devs won’t back down from it. This has caused a major fallout in the Rocket League community as fans continue to speculate the reasons behind this drastic change in the game.
Monetary Benefit or a Strategic Move?
Many are left wondering if this move is to compensate for any financial problems that Epic Games might be going through. Notably, it has been reported that Epic Games had a major round of layoffs, biding goodbye to around 900 employees in September 2023.
Some are even wondering if it is a strategic move to bring something better to the players. Additionally, the game released it’s 13th season on 6th December 2023 and despite this, players are unable to look past Psyonix’s decision to remove the trading system.
