Overwatch 2 Season 7 Sombra Rework: New Ability, Hero Changes, More
Is she better than James Bond now?
The community is excited about the upcoming Overwatch 2 Season 7 which is scheduled to release on 10th October. There are a lot of changes that will be introduced to the game along with this update, including a proper rework for both Sombra and Roadhog.
Sombra will be the first to undergo this transition along with Season 7 in a few day's time. She will continue to operate as a spy-oriented damage dealer who continuously moves in and out of the battle, striking the enemy backlines, and just being an annoyance to deal with.
However, the changes guarantee that she commits a bit more to teamfights and does more during a skirmish rather than just hacking them and escaping at the first sign of distress.
Here is everything you need to know about the Overwatch 2 Season 7 Sombra Reward including information about her new ability and other changes.
Overwatch 2 Season 7 Sombra Rework: Complete Details
To give a quick preview, Sombra has received a new ability called 'Virus' while some of her existing abilities have been slightly moved around, mainly to keep her more or less the same while providing the necessary room and versatility for the character to be played differently.
Sombra Rework: All Abilities
Weapon - Machine Pistol
Sombra is still equipped with a Machine Pistol which is a short-range automatic weapon.
Damage increased from 7.5 to 8.
Minimum spread reduced from 0.5 to 0.
Shots until maximum spread increased from 3 to 6.
Reload time reduced from 1.4 to 1.2 seconds.
Ultimate - EMP
EMP remains unchanged, dealing damage to all enemies in an area equal to a percentage of their health at that point in time, hacking all those affected, and destroying all barriers.
Ultimate charge cost increased by 15%.
Health percentage damage decreased from 40% to 30%.
Passive - Stealth
The invisibility cloak called Stealth which used to be an active ability before has now been turned into a passive ability that triggers automatically when Sombra is out of combat.
When invisible, she gains extra movement speed which is a huge part of her overall gameplay, allowing her to flank, attack certain enemy players with precision, and catch opponents by surprise.
Stealth bonus movement speed was reduced from 60% to 45%.
Fade Out duration into Stealth reduced from 0.375 to 0.25 seconds.
Fade In duration from Stealth reduced from 0.5 to 0.375 seconds.
Abilities
Hack
This is Sombra's primary ability which allows her to corrupt an enemy which disables all their abilities for a short period and grants allies unhindered vision of the hacked target.
Sombra can also hack health pack spawns, hindering enemies from utilizing them while also increasing their spawn time.
Cast time reduced from 0.75 to 0.65 seconds.
Cooldown increased from 4 to 6 seconds.
The ability now cancels Stealth when used on an enemy hero.
Cooldown reduced to 3 seconds if interrupted or used on non-hero enemy.
Virus
This is a new projectile-based ability added to Sombra's kit that infects enemies and deals damage over time.
If an already hacked enemy is damaged by this ability then they are damaged at a faster rate.
Impact Damage: 10 Normal Target, 20 Hacked Target.
Damage Over Time: 100 in 4 secs on Normal Target, 100 in 2 secs on Hacked Target.
Translocator
A former ability of Sombra which has undergone a significant change as it can no longer be manually activated, automatically teleporting Sombra after 0.25 seconds.
The cooldown of the passive ability, Stealth, is reduced after teleporting.
Projectile speed has been increased from 25 to 72.
Cooldown reduced from 6 to 6 seconds, but it only begins after Sombra teleports to the Transponder.
The developers focused on the following points while implementing these changes and it seems they have justified their approach well enough.
Make Sombra commit to the fight more when engaging.
Increase the active feel in her ability kit.
Uphold the current Hacker identity and playstyle.
The updates will be applied to Sombra on 10th October along with the release of Overwatch 2 Season 7. At the same time, developers will continue to watch how she performs going forward and will make balance changes when the time is right.
Roadhog will also be getting a similar treatment along with the mid-season update of Season 7. The details about his rework and ability changes will be released at a later point in time.
