Zombies have made several appearances in Call of Duty games through the years. The upcoming Modern Warfare 3 will be giving this niche a spotlight. Modern Warfare 3 Zombies will include numerous maps, gameplay features, weapons, a dedicated lore and more. Let’s look at everything we know about Modern Warfare 3 Zombies.
Modern Warfare 3 Zombies
Modern Warfare 3 is bringing back zombies to the game in a big way. Modern Warfare 3’s zombie mode is called Operation Deadbolt. Operation Deadbolt will give players an open world zombie experience. Up to 24 players can play it, either solo or in a group. Each match has a time limit of one hour. Touted by the developers as the “largest Zombies map ever”, the mode will also have story missions, new zombie types and dedicated difficulty zones. Operation Deadbolt will also have an extraction mechanic and multiple Wonder Weapons, including a new one. Check out the cinematic released by Activision showing off some of the lore in the game.
The story will follow a team of multinational Operators assisting the members of Task Force 141 against vast undead hordes brought on by a second major enemy threat.
Call of Duty MW3 Zombies gameplay
Activision has also released a gameplay trailer for the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode.
Operation Deadbolt will be a survival PvE mode in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. You will have to fight the hordes and make your way to different regions of the map and complete story missions and other objectives. The game mode is a mix between Warzone DMZ and the traditional Zombie game modes we’ve come to expect from Call of Duty. You also have an option to extract yourself with your existing loot. With 24 players in a lobby, you can choose to enter the game solo or with a pre-assembled squad of players. You will also be able to combine squads with other players during the match with the help of proximity chat.
You will have one hour from the moment you land on the map to fight zombies, collect items, and complete objectives until you have to extract. If you die or run out of time, unfortunately, your loot won’t go with you.
Call of Duty MW3 Zombies missions
Another important MW3 Zombies feature will be the story missions. You can choose to simply not do them and still play the zombies mode. However, these story missions and objectives moves the story ahead and gets you some nice loot in the process. The first MW3 Zombies mission was showcased at Call of Duty: NEXT 2023.
Call of Duty MW3 Zombies map
The Call of Duty MW3 Zombies map is Operation Deadbolt, an open-world PvE environment with several different regions that escalate in difficulty due to hot-zones. Call of Duty MW3 Zombies matches will be played on the new Warzone map Urzikstan.
The map is marked with heat zones denoting contamination from an Aetherium vial. The red zone is the hardest in terms of difficulty and it gets progressively easier as you move away from the map’s center. Given that this time around the game mode doesn’t have a rounds system, player progression will simply take them to deeper areas of the map to get better weapons and progress the story missions.

The currently revealed Call of Duty MW3 zombie types are:
Standard zombies
Hell Hounds
Mimics
Disciples
Mangler
Abomination
Mimics are able to disguise themselves as chests, catching you off-guard. While Disciples buff hordes of zombies which attack you. The Mangler is a new type of armored zombie with a large cannon in one arm and a machete in another. Abominations will attack you with a massive laser and are huge in size, making them harder to take down. However, each zombie type has their weakness. For example, Abominations cannot enter buildings so you can use this to your advantage and head indoors for some respite.
