The Prestige system has been reworked in Modern Warfare 2 and it arrives on 16th November.
The new Prestige system rewards dedicated players while also allowing newer players to catch up.
Each season, the maximum prestige level will go up and progress will not be reset across seasons.

The Prestige system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is very different from previous iterations of Call of Duty games. Activision has made some significant changes to the system and there are tons of new items up for grabs as you keep leveling your Prestige rank. Here is a full breakdown of  the new Prestige system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which will be implemented starting 16th November.

How the New Prestige System Works in Modern Warfare 2

The Prestige system unlocks as soon as you hit level 56 and you will hit Prestige Level 1. As you keep leveling up, you will unlock new Prestige ranks through playtime. One major change that is being implemented with the new system is that your progress is retained from season to season, which means that you do not have to grind too much to get all of the prestige rewards.

If you reach a certain level, you will stay there in the next season. For example, if you reach level 170 by the end of Season One, you will stay at level 170 when Season Two launches. However, there will be a new set of four Prestige icons that will be available past level 250 and more icons will be added over time.

Here is the level breakdown of the new prestige system of Modern Warfare 2:

  • Prestige 2: Unlocked at Rank 100

  • Prestige 3: Unlocked at Rank 150

  • Prestige 4: Unlocked at Rank 200

  • Prestige 5: Unlocked at Rank 250

After you hit level 250, you will not be able to progress further until Season 1 ends. Once you reach whatever the new Prestige cap is in Season Two, you will earn additional badges. It is likely that there will be 250 ranks every season but your progress will be retained. This means that if you have less playtime in certain seasons, you will not be punished for it. You will still be able to progress and earn the badges.

The new system promises to cut down on FOMO (fear of missing out) while also rewarding the most dedicated players in the game. Whether or not players agree with the new Prestige system in Modern Warfare 2 depends on how everyone feels about the level grind once the system is implemented on 16th November.
