League of Legends Season 13 has been underway for almost four months now and players are approaching the mid-season mark soon. Riot Games revealed that it will be introducing major changes to Mythic item functionality in League of Legends 2023 mid-season. The largest overall change will be to attack damage carry (ADC) itemization as the publisher looks to specifically change its philosophy on Mythic items for many champions in the game. The primary changes will later be extended to lethality items and enchanters said Riot.

Here’s all you need to know about the League of Legends 2023 Mid-Season changes, including item changes, the upcoming ranked reset, and more.

What are the mid-season item changes in League of Legends?

In a recent Dev Blog, Riot Games said the larger goal is to test a version of the system where Mythic items are meant to be high-power, high satisfaction, capstone effects that define builds rather than just being a set of situational responses to the game that is currently being played.

We’re specifically looking at changing our philosophy on Mythic items for many champs and are no longer holding Mythics to the original 75% purchase rate scrutiny. We are instead holding high player satisfaction as the most important value, even if it means a champion builds the same Mythic item every game,” said the publisher.

Riot Games acknowledged that ADC players currently have a set itemization path. It’s usually Galeforce / Immortal Shieldbow / Kraken Slayer into Infinity Edge / Navori Quickblades / Guinsoo’s Rageblade. This leads to a very constricted set of item builds.

Riot said that it will be moving on to a new model where ADC Mythic items are Infinity Edge, Quickblades, Rageblade, and Galeforce. Kraken Slayer and Shieldbow will be moved to fit the Legendary items slot. Apart from this, Riot will be reworking other items as and when needed.

The biggest surprise and talking point of the item changes in the Mid-Season update for League of Legends in 2023 is the return of the classic Statikk Shiv item. It will be back in the system with a different stat profile and Riot Games stated that Rageblade will look a lot more like its older versions.

The key takeaways are:

  1. Reworking of the Mythic item class for ADCs.

  2. The new ADC Mythic items will soon be Infinity Edge, Navori Quickblades, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, and Galeforce.

  3. Kraken Slayer and Immortal Shieldbow will be named Legendary items.

  4. Return of Statikk Shiv.

Besides ADC items, Riot Games will also be looking closely at enchanter items and Lethality items for mid-season 2023. “We’re doing a targeted set of changes to the Lethality space to resolve game health problems with Prowler’s Claw and Duskblade of Draktharr,” it said. Prowler’s Claw will be reworked into a Legendary item with a new effect and will have no dash. Whereas, Duskblade will be reworked and Youmuu’s Ghostblade will be promoted to a Mythic item with upgraded outputs.

As far as Enchanters are concerned, a number of items are set to be reworked with the primary goal of being more satisfying to use, with better build paths and higher satisfaction outputs. The biggest highlight in this area is a riff on the old Unholy Grail item, said the company.

Apart from these itemization changes, the Ivern mid-scope update is also on the list of things to be rolled out during the mid-season changes. Additionally, Riot Games will also be exploring the concept of Red and Blue buff sharing in the game even without Ivern present in the lobby.

Meanwhile, the partial ranked reset before the start of Split 2 will be done in the month of July, confirmed the developers.
