We look at the developments with Epic Games to try and answer the question is there a Fortnite movie coming up?

Fortnite has taken the battle royale scene by storm since its release in 2017. The game is known for its evolving gameplay and frequent collaborations across the pop culture landscape. Today, it’s still one of the most played online games. Given its massive success, rumors of Epic Games looking to make a Fortnite movie have been floating around the internet for quite a while now. We look at these claims to answer the question, is there a Fortnite movie coming up?

Is Epic Games planning a Fortnite movie?

While there are rumors floating around on Twitter, a Fortnite movie has not yet been confirmed by Epic Games. A report from The Information claimed that in 2021 there were discussions about a possible Fortnite movie. The Information reported that Epic Games was considering “launching an entertainment division” as a way to diversify. The division could “ develop projects including a feature film based on Fortnite”. Hiring for the division began in January 2021 with Jason McGatlin as President of Special Projects. McGatlin was a former vice president of Physical Production at Lucasfilm. Epic Games is said to be looking into the film and television space as its legal disputes with Apple and Google continue. However, there hasn’t been any announcement from Epic Games about an upcoming Fortnite movie.

Fortnite has a pretty well developed lore which explains its premise as a battle royale with time travel and multiverses. It explores a story of opposing forces with factions like The Imagined Order and The Seven. Despite a rich lore, the FPS Battle-Royale partnered up with a number of big-budget Hollywood movies such as John Wick, Marvel’s many projects as well as anime, and hosted characters from video games like Street Fighter, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Epic Games may choose to capitalise on these connections for a multiverse-based movie experience similar to The Lego Movie.
