Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler spin-off of Minecraft. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May 2020, and for Xbox Series X/S in February 2021. Is Minecraft Dungeons cross platform?

Minecraft Dungeons has cross-platform support enabled. That means you can team up with friends playing on a PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. Mojang Studios also enabled a cloud save feature so players can pick up the game and your progress on another platform. 

How to enable Minecraft Dungeons crossplay

Players should make sure their game is updated to version 1.8.8.0 or later. You should also make sure your Nintendo Switch / PlayStation Network accounts are linked to your Microsoft account. Note that you also need a valid Nintendo Switch Online membership to play online on Nintendo Switch, or a PlayStation Plus membership for PlayStation consoles.

Updating version 1.8.8.0 allows you to create a multiplayer lobby with cross-platform support. While you can create lobbies on previous versions too, this feature isn’t supported.

To play online multiplayer and cross-platform play in Minecraft Dungeons on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles, you need to log in to the game using a Microsoft Account. 

From the main menu and Hero select screen, you can switch between Online Game and Offline Game. After you select Online Game, you can add friends by selecting Add Friend and searching for their gamertags. 

You can join friends' game sessions from the main menu, or you can invite them to your own game session:

• Select Friends from The Camp after starting an online game

• Select the friend whose session you want to join

• Select Add to Game

• Select Start Online Game

How many players can play Minecraft Dungeons cross-platform?

A total of two to four players can join a multiplayer lobby in Minecraft Dungeons irrespective of the platforms. However, the game’s difficulty goes up when more players join your lobby. You have the option to start a game by yourself and let other players join you in your quest later when it is in progress. 

However, you must remember that the game’s difficulty increases when more players join your lobby. There’s also an option to start a game by yourself while others will join your quest later while it’s in progress.
