Arena mode or the 2v2v2v2 mode was first rolled out on the live servers on 20th July and was available for play till 28th August.
It was a huge hit amongst the players and Riot Games decided to bring it back with a lot of changes.
However, the latest buzz in the community is that Arena could be more than just a LTM.

The Arena mode, which is an amalgamation of Teamfight Tactics (TFT) and League of Legends, released on 20th July 2023 along with the big 2023 Summer Event: Soul Fighter. A lot of players genuinely loved the game mode and invested their time and energy playing it during its first iteration. After briefly taking it down for a while, Riot Games will be rolling out Arena Mode once again in December with an updated version of the game mode.

Now, the League of Legends player base and community are convinced that Arena may become permanent after LoL Patch 13.24. Players spotted a new icon for the game mode when it was revealed on the client.

Arena Mode’s Availability in League of Legends

Riot Games releases featured game modes around particular seasons under the system called the ‘Rotating Game Mode’ queue. Unlike the permanent modes like Summoner’s Rift and Howling Abyss, these modes are spaced out throughout the year or during in-game events.

After a brief stint as a limited time mode (LTM) in Summer, Arena is making a grand return with LoL Patch 13.24.

Lead Modes Designer Daniel "Maxw3ll" Emmons said, "Arena was the first new mode League has released in several years. It was also the very first mode that most of the people on the new Modes team (myself included) have shipped."

Riot Games noted that it will continue to work on Arena mode over time and ship updates as per feedback and constructive criticism from the community.

It is already on the public beta environment (PBE) on 8th November. Following this, the game mode will be released with the newest iteration and changes on 21st November.

League of Legends players, however, have been speculating that the mode might be sticking around on the client longer than a month. This is because Riot Games has introduced a new icon for Arena in the client.

This new icon likely indicates that Arena might become a permanent staple of League of Legends. Notably, all previous limited-time modes have always had the same one icon.

Some of the changes made to Arena v2 are:

  • Changes to the Queues.

  • Champion Diversity & Augment Changes

  • Downed State

  • Challenges

  • New Cameos
