The Akimbo attachment in Modern Warfare 2 allows players to wield dual handguns.
However, players will not be able to ADS while the attachment is on.
Here’s how you can unlock the Akimbo in MW2.

Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) has seen immense success within a few months of its launch and is one of the most successful titles in the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty games, including Modern Warfare 2, gives players a chance to experience thrilling game modes and offers them a wide range of weaponry. The Akimbo attachment in Call of Duty is iconic and MW2 brought it back. It allows players to hold two of the same weapon instead of one and gives them double the firepower, with an understandable trade-off. The catch is that the Akimbo attachment takes away the players' ability to aim down sights (ADS). In Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward has kept the attachment specific to the pistol class.

While the Akimbo attachment was available for handguns, submachine guns (SMGs), and shotguns in the 2009 version of the game, MW2 only allows Akimbos for handguns. This article will guide you through how to get your hands on the dual-wield of Akimbo attachments in Modern Warfare 2.

How to unlock Akimbo pistols in Modern Warfare 2

The Akimbo attachment needs to be unlocked separately by most of the pistols and there are five sets that can unlock to use in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. You will simply need to level up the following pistols to a certain level to unlock the attachment:

  • Take the P890 to weapon level 26

  • Take the .50 GS to weapon level 17

  • Level up the Basilisk to weapon level 28

  • Level up the X12 to weapon level 19

  • For the X13, level up the X12 to weapon level 19 (Auto unlock)

Notably, since the X12 and X13 Auto belong to the same weapon platform, you will only need to unlock the attachment for one of those and the other will be automatically unlocked. After you’ve reached the above-mentioned level on each weapon, you will then be able to use two versions of the same weapon at the same time in Modern Warfare 2.

The disadvantage of equipping this attachment on handguns is that it limits the players. Notably, if you have already equipped the Akimbo, you will not be able to equip other attachments. It is also important to remember that you will not be able to ADS when you have the attachment on. Instead, you can only hip-fire. Additionally, you will need to fire each weapon separately, meaning that you need to press two buttons to fire both weapons at the same time. Before taking the Akimbo onto a serious match, you can test it out in a Private Match with the desired loadout.
