Overwatch 2 is free-to-play and the game was officially launched on 4th October with 35 heroes available to play. However, as a new player, under the First Time User Experience (FTUE), not all the 35 characters are unlocked as you start playing Overwatch 2. But the bright side is that it is easy to unlock most of the heroes, and it just requires users to clock in a few hours of gameplay. Players, both who are both familiar with the title and new to the game, are flocking in to try their hand at Blizzard Entertainment's first-person shooter (FPS) game. Notably, all the heroes and maps, aside from Capture Maps (2CP), from Overwatch 1 have made their way into the sequel. There are also new maps with a new game mode called Push, which boast some additional content.
Let us look at the heroes available in Overwatch 2 and understand how to unlock them.
Unlocking all Overwatch 2 heroes
Overwatch 1 was launched in 2016 and the game immediately rose to popularity. The game also saw relatively decent success in the esports scene. Overwatch 2 is now seemingly on the rise despite facing issues including long queue timers, friend lists disappearing, and DDoS attacks within the first few days of release. One of the notable changes in Overwatch 2 is that players who have not played the original game will begin with only a handful of the hero roster unlocked. Players will have to play more games if they want to test out any of the locked heroes.
You will only start with 15 heroes unlocked out of the total 35. Notably, if you log in to the game before the end of Season 1 and Season 2 if you are an Overwatch 1 owner, then you will automatically unlock new heroes Sojourn and Junker Queen.
Here is a list of all the heroes available to play from the beginning of Overwatch 2:
Lucio
Mercy
Orisa
Reinhardt
Winston
Zarya
Pharah
Reaper
Soldier 76
Torbjörn
Tracer
Widowmaker
Moira
Junker Queen: (New hero) Unlocked by logging in while Season 1 is in play
Sojourn: (New hero) Unlocked by logging in while Season 1 is in play
All the remaining heroes can be unlocked by playing a certain number of pubs. You can unlock Kiriko in Overwatch 2 by reaching Level 55 of the free Battle Pass or you can unlock her instantly by buying the Battle Pass. Notably, players can play a locked hero if their premade friend has them unlocked.

Players should also note that all new players will be awarded double XP points upon a win and this can come in handy while leveling up the Battle Pass. Unlocking heroes like Genji, D.VA, Cassidy, and Ana might not be a problem. However, unlocking Baptiste, Sombra, Wrecking Ball, and Echo will require some dedication from the players.
