How to Turn Off Apex Legends Crossplay

Turning off Apex Legends’ crossplay is not recommended if you want fast matchmaking times especially at higher ranks. However, there has been a surge of DDOSers in the current season and while Respawn is attempting to stop the issue, players affected by it are unhappy. If you want to reduce the odds of being DDOSed in your ranked games, it is recommended to turn off Apex crossplay. It will lead to longer matchmaking times in Diamond, Master and Predator ranks but you will be matched against players from the same platform only. Here is how you can turn off Apex Legends’ crossplay on any platform.

How to disable Apex Legends Crossplay

To disable Apex Legends crossplay, you need to boot your game and head to the settings menu.

1. Launch Apex Legends

2. Click on Settings

3. Click on Cross-Platform Play (Beta)

4. Click on Disabled

How to disable Apex Legends Crossplay on Xbox

Depending on your settings, you may or may not be able to change your crossplay settings. If you notice that the crossplay options in Apex Legends do not toggle, here is what you need to do:

1. Head to your Xbox settings menu

2. Open the Account settings and click on Privacy and Online Safety

3. Click on Xbox Live Pricacy

4. Click on View Details > Customise

5. Click on Communications and Multiplayer

6. Toggle the "You can play with people outside of Xbox Live" option to disable crossplay.

Do note that this setting will apply to all your games and not just Apex Legends. You will still be able to join players on PC with the setting turned off if they are on your friend list. Doing so will put you in PC lobbies but without a PC player in your party, you will be put into console-exclusive lobbies.

How to use Apex Legends Crossplay to play with friends only

Even if you turn off Apex Legends Crossplay, you can still play with your friends on other platforms anytime. Adding friends from other platforms to your lobbies will temporarily turn the setting on on.

1. Launch Apex Legends

2. Click on the ‘Friends’ Tab

3. Click on ‘Find Friend’

4. Search for their username

5. The search results show players from all platforms and you will be able to invite your friend

6. Once your friend accepts the invite, you will be able to play together.

Should you turn off Apex Legends crossplay?

One of the biggest issues with Apex Legends right now is DDOSing at higher ranks. If you are a player who belongs in Diamond, Master or Predator ranks the issue is more prevalent. Respawn Entertainment has introduced loss forgiveness for lobbies that are DDOSed but it does not stop exploiters from shutting down servers.

If you turn off Apex crossplay, you may face less issues until Respawn Entertainment is able to offer a permanent fix. It will lead to long queue times at higher ranks and if you play on a server with a low population, turning it off can negatively affect your matchmaking experience.
