Gas masks play a vital role in ensuring your survival in Call of Duty: Warzone. These essential items offer temporary protection against the damaging effects of circle gas and gas grenades in the game. Players will often come across situations where they will find themselves having to equip and unequip the gas mask again and again.
In the past, things used to be different. As soon as you’d be in the vicinity of the gas zone, the gas mask in Warzone Battle Royale used to be automatically worn.
However, things have changed as Warzone has been integrated with Modern Warfare 3. Now, players need to manually equip or unequip the gas mask, eliminating the frustrating forced animation that used to disrupt intense gunfights.

How to Use the Gas Mask in Warzone
When you come across a gas mask in Warzone, you have two options:
Press the Equip button to put it on immediately.
Choose Stow to add it to one of your backpack's inventory slots.
When equipping the gas mask, the same, dreaded animation of putting it on still plays. So make sure to be in a safe space while you equip it. Regardless of whether you equip a gas mask from the ground or your inventory, you will have to grit your teeth and watch the animation. The latest update has not yet removed it completely.
If you want to avoid the vignette effect, then stowing the gas mask in your backpack is your best bet. While the vignette effect is not very noticeable, it's still there. If you want a clear vision throughout the game, it is highly suggested that you do not equip the gas mask at all times.
Instead, you can simply manually equip it from your backpack whenever you find yourself in or about to enter the gas zone.
How to Remove the Gas Mask in Warzone
If you've equipped the Gas Mask and want to take it off, follow these steps:
Open your backpack.
Look for the Gas Mask icon in the left corner of the bottom list.
Hover over it and press Stow, as indicated in the image.
If all slots are full, you'll have the option to replace one with the Gas Mask.
Again, keep in mind that the animation will play when you take the mask off. However, now you are in control of choosing exactly when it happens.
This is how you can wear the gas mask when need arises and take it off when you are out of the gas zone.
