How to Get Elytra in Minecraft
Getting around Minecraft's massive generated maps is usually a challenge that requires you to devote hours just walking or sprinting. While you can get around faster with horses (especially skeleton horses), if you’re looking for a particular biome, taking to the skies is a more efficient way to go about exploring. This is where an Elytra comes in. Unfortunately Elytras are not craftable in survival mode, you’ll have to go looking for these handy things. Here is how to get an Elytra in Minecraft.
How to get an Elytra in Minecraft
Elytras are wearable gliders that let you cruise around the map once you’re in the air. Players often pair an elytra with fireworks to get a boost of speed and stay in the skies longer. While you can spawn an elytra in creative mode, getting one in survival mode requires you to visit the End dimension.
Elytra only spawns naturally in the end on special End ship structures. These End ships spawn at the outskirts of End cities. So you’ll need to and head to the end through the End portal. You’ll also need to slay the Ender Dragon and head to the End gateway portal, located on the edge of the End island. Make sure you carry an extra Ender Pearl to throw at the portal so you can go through it.
You will then have to explore the islands till you find an End ship. Note that you’ll have to go through a number of skulkers if you want to raid the towers around. Once you find the ship, board it and fight off any skulkers. You’ll find an elytra in an item frame in the main hall. Break the frame to pick up the elytra.
You can repair an elytra by using phantom membranes on an anvil. Once you equip your elytra in the chest plate slot, you can now jump off high places and glide to the ground. You can also use firework rockets to propel yourself forward while flying.
