Skeleton Horses are undead mobs that spawn being ridden by skeleton horsemen in Minecraft. They are the fastest means of transportation in the game, however, they require at least a clearance of two blocks. They can also be used to climb hills and jump fences because the skeleton horses can jump up to five block heights. Skeleton horses can also be ridden underwater. Here is how you can find and tame a skeleton horse in Minecraft.
How to find a skeleton horse in Minecraft
A skeleton trap horse can naturally spawn from lightning generated during a thunderstorm. It has a 0.75–1.5% chance on Easy, 1.5–4% on Normal, and 2.25–6.75% on Hard to spawn a hostile skeleton horse. Note that lightning caused by a Channeling-enchanted trident and strikes on a lightning rod will never spawn a skeleton trap horse.
When the player comes within 10 blocks of the skeleton trap horse, it transforms into a skeleton horseman: a skeleton, a stray, or a wither skeleton riding a skeleton horse. Up to four skeleton horsemen can spawn from one trap. They come with an enchanted iron helmet and an enchanted bow, and have damage immunity for 3 seconds after spawning.
You’ll need to deal with the horsemen before you can try and tame a skeleton horse. The best way is to jump and hit the skeleton riding the horses. Once you kill the skeleton, you can now try and tame the horse.
How to tame and ride a skeleton horse in Minecraft
Taming and riding a skeleton horse is the same as taming and riding a normal horse in Minecraft. Select an empty slot in your hotbar and right click on the horse to mount it. You will now be able to place a saddle and ride the skeleton horse. A skeleton horse can be healed like a regular horse; over time while a player rides them, and while near hay bales when a player is not riding them. Players can use a splash potion of healing or regeneration on the horse while riding it, or by throwing directly at it while dismounted, which is the fastest way to heal horses.
