Players may face the Valorant error code 128 when trying to start the game.
There are a number of possible solutions to the issue.

The new Valorant patch 3.09 has gone live a couple of weeks ago and with it came some old and new bugs, including VALORANT Vanguard error code 128. Players usually encounter this error when trying to start Valorant. Players get a message that reads, “Vanguard not initialized. Vanguard Anti-Cheat has not been initialized. If this is your first time playing you will need to reboot your computer to continue. If you see this message frequently you may need to update your drivers." We look at some of the possible causes as well as solutions to Valorant error code 128.

How To Fix Valorant Error Code 128

Update drivers

You can start off by doing what is suggested in the error message, which is restart your system and update your drivers. You can update your drivers manually through the Device Manager located in the Control Panel. You may need to download the latest version of your drivers from your graphic card manufacturer’s website.

If this doesn’t work, you can try downloading and installing driver updates from the ‘Optional Updates’ section in your Windows Update tab.

Make sure Valorant Vanguard service is running

Open command prompt in admin mode by going to run through Windows + R and typing cmd. In the CMD prompt window, run the commands below:

sc query vgc

sc query vgk

If it says the service is not available, you will need to uninstall VALORANT and Riot Vanguard. After this do a fresh download and reinstall the latest version of both the game and Riot Vanguard programs. However, if you see vgc service is available, start Vanguard manually by running the following command:

net start vgc

After doing this, check if Valorant Vanguard error 128 is resolved. If it still does not resolve the error, repair VALORANT through the Riot Client.

Open the Riot client and click on the silhouette icon on the top right corner of the screen. Navigate to ‘Settings’ in the drop down menu and go to the Valorant tab on the left.

Load the Riot client and try repairing Valorant from here.

Here click the ‘Repair’ button to initiate a game repair.

Wait till your repair is complete and then restart your system. This should most likely resolve Valorant error code 128.&nbsp;
