There are some quick fixes you can implement if you run into the error when opening the League of Legends client. Players can run into the error when they login to League of Legends. It prevents the client from loading your profile and can cause “<Unknown Player>” to appear where your Summoner Name usually is. As mentioned before, the error is caused by connectivity issues, preventing players from accessing their accounts or queuing up for games.

How to Fix Unknown Player Error in League of Legends

Check your internet connection first. The Unknown Player error may be a result of issues with your Wi-Fi router. Try resetting your modem by turning it off for 10 seconds and then back on again. Also try unplugging and re-plugging your router after 10 seconds. Restart your PC too and then try launching the game to see if the issue is resolved.  If doing that does not resolve the issue, you can try to fix the Unknown Player error in League by flushing your DNS cache or changing your DNS server settings to alternative servers. Here is how to flush your DNS cache:

  • While on the desktop, press Windows Key and type CMD.

  • Type ipconfig /flushdns in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.

  • Close the command prompt and attempt to make a connection.

You can also check your network configuration by typing Firewall.cpl in Run on Windows and disable any proxies that may interfere with the login module. Make sure to update or make exceptions for League of Legends in any security programs you’re using and finally try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
