Two-factor authentication is an online security procedure where people require more than just a password to access an account.
The Two-Factor Authentication feature in Fortnite currently supports the use of an authenticator app or an email address authentication method.
Here's how you enable it in Fortnite.

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA is a security method that enables people to protect their online identities. Whether it’s a social media application or a game, it is important to be careful about your online activity because hackers linger around, ready to seize your account information. While it may seem like having 2FA on games is quite a reach, not having one can become a leeway for hackers to find unauthorized access to your mobile, phone number, and even bank account, in some cases.

Battle Royale Fortnite, especially famous among children, has become a breeding ground for hackers. Therefore, it is essential to enable 2FA on Fortnite to protect yourself. If you are unclear on how to enable it on Fortnite, our guide will come in handy.

Here’s all you need to know about 2FA on Fortnite.

Enabling 2FA on Fortnite

Fortnite says, "Your account security is our top priority! Protect your account by enabling 2FA. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) can be used to help protect your account from unauthorized access by requiring you to enter an additional code when you sign in."

Once you enable 2FA on Fortnite, it is no longer easy for hackers to access your device or game. Having a double authentication requires more than just a password to access your Fortnite account. To facilitate this and encourage more people to enable 2FA, Fortnite also offers a variety of freebies, like free emotes to players. Without 2FA, you cannot send gifts to your friend in the game, nor can you participate in competitive Fortnite events.

As a reward for protecting your account, you’ll unlock the Boogiedown Emote in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Likewise, you'll get the following items in Fortnite Save the World:

  • 50 Armory Slots

  • 10 Backpack Slots

  • 1 Legendary Troll Stash Llama

Steps to Enabling 2FA on Fortnite

Follow the given steps to successfully enable 2FA on your device:

  • Head to the Accounts page and enter your Epic Games login details.

  • Once done, navigate to the ‘password and security’ tab.

  • Next, you will see the ‘Two-factor authentication’ section. Under it, you’ll see three available options:

Two-factor authenticator app: This is where you can use an external application to take care of the authentication. Some of the famous applications for this include Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.
Email for Two-factor authentication: Whenever you try to log in to your account, a security code will be sent to you, which you will have to enter. It will keep changing every time you log in.
SMS-based Two-factor authentication: It is similar to email in terms that you will be provided a unique setup code each time you attempt a login.

  • Select the method that seems the most convenient and follow the process to set it up.

  • You will receive a security code for confirmation and then, you will receive a confirmation mail!

  • And you’re done! The page would reflect that the method has been successfully set up!

If you opt for more than one method of authentication, then you will have to select a primary method by clicking on the three dots in the dialogue box of the method you prefer. Click on ‘Make my primary 2FA method’ to set it up.
