Ever since its release back in 2017, Fortnite has seen numerous players rake in thousands of hours in the battle royale. While a victory must definitely be cherished, getting to that point is certainly quite the ordeal and you might need to take a few breaks before you queue up again with your squad. Many players are unaware that the game provides you with an option that allows you to sit out while you are in a party with your mates. This ability pretty much lets you inform your friends that you are AFK while also giving you the option to stay and communicate with them in the same lobby. Here’s how you can activate this useful feature.
How Does Sitting Out Work in Fortnite?
As mentioned above, turning on the “Sitting out” option simply indicates to your squad mate or party member that you are taking a break from the game and you will not be participating in the upcoming games.
This break might be due to whatever reason and the purpose of switching on this option is to notify them that you are AFK and you will not be a part of it until you opt not to sit out anymore. Doing so means your teammate can still play matches while also being able to communicate with you and you do not need to go through the hassle of inviting one or the other and rejoining parties again.
Here’s how you can opt to “Sit Out” in Fortnite:
Open the Fortnite social panel by pressing ESC on PC or the Options button on PlayStation and Xbox. Nintendo users might have to press the Plus button.
Click on your Player Icon and look for the “Participation” option
Change your participation status from “Playing” to “Sitting Out”
Upon doing this, you will now see the words “Sitting Out” under your avatar’s nametag in the lobby and your character will appear grayed out or translucent, indicating that you are away from your keyboard.
That is pretty much all you need to do if you want to take a break and sit out from Fortnite for a while. You also need to know that there is no time limit and you can opt-out from joining games until you change it back to the “Playing” option.
