Everything You Need to Know About Catalyst in Apex Legends: Lore, Abilities, Voice Actor, and More
Catalyst is the newest legend in the world of Apex Legends and she has been one of the most impactful characters in the game’s meta. At high ranks, the Seer and Catalyst combo has an oppressive presence all thanks to the amount of control Catalyst brings to team fights. Respawn Entertainment has not only hit the mark with Catalyst’s abilities, but the developers have also established an interesting backstory within the Apex lore. Here is everything you need to know about Catalyst in Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Catalyst: Lore
Tressa Crystal Smith is a standoffish woman, who likes crystals more than she likes most people. She grew up on Boreas, a faltering planet with a deteriorating moon. Conformity and efficiency were necessities there but it was something that she was never comfortable with.
Instead, she was more at home with fellow misfits who spent their time on crystal readings, moon rituals, and personal witchery. They supported her through her self-discovery and transition, making her turbulent teenage years less lonely.
But when her closest friend went to extreme lengths to save their moon from corporate encroachment, Tressa was caught in the middle. Ultimately, she ran away from home, and headed to the Cleo moon. There she joined the terraforming crews hired to repair and rejuvenate the celestial body. She learned to work with ferrofluid, and use it with a certain witchy flair.
She grew attached to her new community and, when the heat on Boreas died down, brought some of her old friends back into the fold. She found a place to call her own–just in time for the Apex Games to arrive and sweep it out from under her new family. She’s in the Apex Games for the prize money to support her family and will stop at nothing to keep her family safe.
Apex Legends Catalyst: Abilities
Piercing Spike (Tactical)
Throw out a patch of ferrofluid which turns into spikes when enemies are near. Catalyst remains immune to enemy spikes. (25-second cooldown)
Barricade (Passive)
Reinforce doors, strengthening them and locking them to enemies. Spaces, where doors have been destroyed, can also be reinforced.)
Dark Veil (Ultimate)
Raise a permeable wall of ferrofluid. Enemies who walk through it will be slowed and partially blinded for a brief time. (2-minute cooldown).
How to play Catalyst in Apex Legends
Bunker Down: If you are holding down buildings and there are not enough teammates to cover all doors, make sure that you use Reinforce on doors. It will take enemies four melee hits to break doors down. You can even drop your Tactical below the doors so that even if enemies break in, they have yet another deployable to deal with.
Combo with Seer: Catalyst was designed to counter-scan legends but it turns out that she synergizes the best with Seer. You can drop down the Dark Veil and Seer can use his ultimate (Exhibit) to highlight all enemies through Catalyst’s ultimate.
Know Your Limits: Catalyst can make smart use of cover to escape using Dark Veil and you can use your Tactical or Passive to make it harder for enemies to get to you. However, you have no movement ability so you need to be careful about your positioning more than some of the other legends.
Flush Enemies Out of Cover: You can use your abilities to force enemies out of cover. If you learn how to place your Piercing Spikes over long distances you will be able to force enemies out of cover as they will constantly take ticks of 25 damage each if they do not move.
Scan the Zone: Since Catalyst is a Controller legend, you can now scan the zone beacons that reveal the next zone. Knowing where you need to rotate can help you identify great points of interests (POIs) to fight in and plan your rotations.
