Minecraft’s developers have stated in the past that the human models in Minecraft are essentially gender-less.

Alex is the main female character in Minecraft while Steve is her male counterpart. She has not only been a part of Minecraft but has also made appearances in other games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Minecraft Dungeons. Alex has an interesting history in Minecraft and she is more important to gaming than you might think.

When was Alex added to Minecraft?

Players have been able to create their own Minecraft characters for years but without using mods, players were limited to using Steve. While Steve is an iconic character, there was no female representation in the game.

The developers stated before Alex’s release, “He’s (Steve’s) probably the most famous minecrafter in the world, and has excellent stubble. But jolly old Steve doesn’t really represent the diversity of our playerbase."

Alex was made globally available in 2015 with “thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail.” Something you might not know about her is that she was already available in the Windows and Mac OS versions of the game, but was randomly assigned to players and was not available as a selectable character.

What gender is Alex from Minecraft?

Alex is meant to be the female character in Minecraft while Steve is the male counterpart. But Minecraft’s developers have stated in the past that the human models in Minecraft are essentially gender-less.

The blocky shape might give the characters a masculine look but the developers did not want players to make decisions about gender in a gender-less game. But players argued that having a feminine playable character would allow a large part of the playerbase to identify with the character, which is why Alex was eventually added to the game.

How old is Alex from Minecraft?

There is no official age of the protagonists in Minecraft. Alex was released in 2015 so it has been eight years since her release. But her in-game age was estimated to be 490 years by a Reddit user in 2021 and it has been going up by 72 Minecraft days every real-life day!

How to summon giant Alex in Minecraft?

Giant Alex is a massive version of the female protagonist with bloodied skin. Unless you want to have nightmares, you do not want to summon her. Spawning her can cause the game to crash so you need to be very careful, and it is only possible to see her in the Java version of the game. If you have the Bedrock version of Minecraft, you are out of luck!

To find Giant Alex you need to select version OptiFine 1.12.2 in the game launcher and set the difficulty to Peaceful. Change your settings to 6 chunks render and 0.2 fog distance. You also need to enter the seed “7778749381209293789578” when you generate the game world. She will appear in swamps, forests or snow mountains.

When you spawn in the world you just created, you will be able to see Giant Alex staring menacingly.  Like we mentioned earlier, you do not want to get too close to Giant Alex or your game might crash and there is no workaround for it except to maintain distance from her.
